Obtaining Dual Citizenship with Canada

I apologize in advance if this is in the incorrect topic, but I think it fits best here:

I am interested in dual citizenship with Canada (I'm a US citizen) and I was wondering how to go about it? I've searched many sources online and correct me if I'm wrong but as I understand it, you start out by obtaining a passport (or a visa?) then move and live in Canada for 3 years, to which then you may apply for citizenship?

You have to had to live in Canada for at least 3 years. You can't just marry a Canadian and then move here. Check the immigration website, Citizenship and Immigration Canada | Citoyenneté et Immigration Canada

You can go as a conjugal partner:

A person outside Canada who has had a binding relationship with a sponsor for at least one year but could not live with their partner. The term refers to both opposite-sex and same-sex relationships.
