Little white sores under my tongue

Recommended Posts

Tim'sAngel

They just showed up over night, unless they have been developing for awhile and I just never noticed. Also, I have 2 really bad ulcers from biting myself, don't know if that has anything to do with the sores but its just weird to me all the sudden I have such mouth issues. I did some google research and couldn't really find a whole lot of info. The most info I found was on oral cancer, cysts and clogged saliva ducts. Now I'm really freaking out!! I did smoke on and off for 2 years but havn't smoked in about a year now. Has anyone else had this? Well, some are white, some are just raised flesh colored bumps. They hurt a little, more irritating than painful. It just feels like I've bitten my tongue, only there is no way I could have underneath. Altogether there are about 8 or 9 tiny bumps. I don't have insurance so going to a Dr. would be too expensive to pay out of pocket right now.

question: is there ANY chance it could be an std? not meant to be insulting btw :)

No its ok. I was pretty sure someone would bring that up. I checked out all kinds of pics and also I've been tested so I don't believe that is the case. Most of STDs in the mouth are on top of the tongue. I thought maybe it was thrush but afer reading and looking at pics, I don't believe thats it either.

Did you burn your tongue or eat anything extremely salty, sour, spicy, etc recently?

Actually yes. My mothers wedding was this last weekend and I ate so much food I nearly burst. I think thats what caused the first 2 ulcers, but I get those from time to time from biting the inside of my mouth or eating something too sweet or salty or burning it. but why would it take this long to all the sudden show up? and why underneath?

Are they really really tiny, like smaller than a pinhead? It could be inflamed tastebuds. If you can't go to a doctor right away see if they go away in a week. If not then you should get it checked out.

ugh, fresh pineapple, if it hasn't properly ripened, kills my mouth this way. Sounds like you got into something that was too acidic for the environment of your mouth.

my guess is to treat it like you would cancre sores, gargling with mouthwash and using a mild toothpaste ... they ought to dissipate on their own.

or, do like the daddy from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" suggests: Put some Windex on it!

THere are tastebuds under my tongue? but yea, there small, not pinhead small, but small. Some of them are on those 2 purplish fleshy lines that go in a v shape on the bottom of your tongue

You positive it's not thrush? It sure sounds thrushy to me. Can you go see your dentist?

I would try salt water rinses - always seemed to work better for me than mouthwash.

Once I had about 20 intensely painful little white sores in my mouth. I could hardly open my mouth and ran straight to my doctor, who sent me to a specialist. He diagnosed it as a viral flareup (NOT an STD), but didn't name the virus.

If this is what you have, it will go away, but until then you may want to cover the sores with Zilactin. It took mine from EXCRUCIATING to uncomfortable. Tiny little tube costs about $10 - but I would have paid $100if necessary. And the condition did self-resolve in about 4 days.

"Zilactin medicated gel relieves pain and speeds healing of canker sores, fever blisters and cold sores. Zilactin forms a tenacious, occlusive film on the oral mucosa that holds the medication in place. The film can last up to 6 hours, allowing pain-free eating and drinking.

"Zilactin-B: Zilactin-B is a medicated gel containing benzocaine that forms a smooth, flexible and occlusive film on the oral mucosa. It is specially formulated to relieve pain and shield the mouth sores, canker sores, cheek bites and gum sores from the environment of the mouth. The film can last up to 6 hours, allowing pain-free eating and drinking."

This morning they seem to be better. They don't really hurt, but they are still there. I am using some Orajel ulta mouth sore medication. I bought it for the ulcers but they work for the other sores too. They film us and the pain relief last for about an hour, maybe less. Long enough to eat something.

Outcast, I really don't think it is thrush. That is the first thing I thougth of so I looked it up and the pictures doesnt look the same and the symptoms arn't the same. Me and SO looked up some other stuff online last night, and have concluded its from eating too many sweet/salty foods over the weekend of mom's wedding. I'll just wait it out, if it gets worse then I'll just have to make an apt. somewhere

ok never mind, it is getting worse. those two v strips on the underside of my tongue are white and hurt. And there are little white tiny bumps around it. On one of those 2 strips its at the top of it near the tip of my tongue it is swollen, kinda bubbly looking. I tried that orajel on it and it didn't even work!! Now I'm getting worried again. My SO said he has had those 2 strips enflamed before. I'm kinda thinking maybe it is an inflamed or clogged saliva duct.

Of course I have tell you first: go to the doctor and get a proper diagnosis. One other option that it might be - and i have found this with myself a few times - is the little sores, like you describe, can be the sign of a vitamin deficiency (especially if you workout relatively frequently, your body will deplete certain key nutrients faster then you can replace them with food products, and ill effects start to occur). Are you getting enough vitamins? don't even expect the food you consume to cover all your bases. 1multivitamin per day will garuantee that your body is getting what it needs, and that also helps you rule out an option like this one, when things start to break down.

Good point. You sound like my SO. He is a health nut and says the same thing about if you take care of your body then you can rule out more things when you get sick. The white bumps have now turned into what looks like somthing imflamed. Could that still be the case?

I'm gonna tell you now: go to the doctor - he's the only only one who can give you a true diagnosis. I know it's scary - i had a black spot on the inside of my lip once, that was getting bigger and bigger, and I was terrified too: googling all the worst thoughts you could imagine. But i did go to the doctor - expecting the worst - and in my case it just turned to be a random skin anomaly - which he cut off and it never came back.

GO TO THE DOCTOR - or you're a) going to drive yourself nuts with unecessary grief or b) you're going to pass a point where, whatever it is, cannot be easily treated.

Your right, except I have no insurance and no money :( If it doesn't go away pretty soon or if it gets worse, I will. But I'm going to avoid it if at all possible. Thanks for the advice tho :)

And he is correct. Your body is a living organism that requires the right nutrients to function properly. You can't grow a plant by feeding it lard and coffee and cigarette ashes - so why would you think your body can take abuse?

If you get a fever, get yourself to a physician and quit being cheap. In the meantime, do salt-water rinses at least four times a day.

I gotta say, in her defense, i have to have a severed limb to go to the doctor. I don't have health insurance either, and there is no way i could afford to go, when they tell you they don't know what's wrong and give you a prescription for something there is no way in hell you can afford!!!!

It's not being cheap, it's not wanting to go broke over something that may go away by itself in a day or two.

It's sucks, but it's the cold hard truth.

Love Hurts

I know a 22 year old that had them she attributed them to smoking.

They lasted a month and then vanished. She had been under alot of stress. It was as you described..... More irritating than painful.

She had no medical, did not see a Dr...... however she did begin to drink green tea as I recall. It may have helped?

Try rinsing your mouth with peroxide to help kill germs.

Using LoveShack or any Internet forum for medical diagnosis and advice is not something you want to do. There is simply no way on earth even a seasoned, licensed professional would venture a diagnosis of your malady via and Internet forum and especially without proper observation and tests.

If you can't afford medical care, go to your local health department. Otherwise, call the local medical association and tell them your plight. There are free clinics in every locality. If that doesn't work, send me a PM and I'll help you personally from outside this forum.

I must close this thread because our guidelines do not permit the diagnosis of ailments by unlicensed persons who are not medical doctors. However, I'll leave up what's here for now.
