Anybody conquered Tinnitus ?

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

I am a Tinnitus sufferer since 10 years , approached dozen of ENTs , may nbe more .

There is no physical direct cause of my Tinnitus .

Wonder if Any body succeeded in treating it ?

Interesting topic. I have not really tried to treat it but have found it seems to be getting worse as I age so I am now looking to do something.

Loud sounds exacerbate it so I try to avoid (though I do listen to music loud once in a while).

I saw an advertisement for a pill that claims it helps - might be worth researching that.

To my knowledge there is no treatment.

They say it can be perceived to be worse when under stress, with caffeine, and loud sounds.

It is a fact of life for many people...

Happy Lemming

I don't have ringing, but I have "buzzing".

It got really bad when I had some extreme migraines over the summer, but had diminished significantly when my migraines went away.

Recently, the buzzing came back, it wasn't bad... just annoying. As I was sitting in my home office, I felt a chill and put the heat up a few degrees (warmer than usual), oddly the buzzing diminished. I know it sounds stupid, but being warmer seem to diminish my buzzing to almost gone. I can't explain why being warmer seemed to help, but it did. My suggestion... turn the heat up in your home (a few degrees) and see if it helps.

Best of luck...

I've got pretty bad tinnitus for more than 10 years, sometimes it's so loud I'm almost sure it's an external noise. But I learnt to live with it and ignore it as best as I can. I try to avoid concerts and night clubs or having earphones on for too long. Otherwise there's Tinnitus Retraining Therapy, to learn to cope with it, maybe something you could try

Thanks for your feedback

I have also sensitivity to many frequencies , like child cry , door lock , etc ...

I am searching for an affordable masking device , any one tried it ?

I have it too but my hearing aid has some very light white noise that cancels it out...

According to my doctor, the noise gives your brain something to process or something to that effect.

Depends what you mean by 'conquered'. I've had it for at least 10 years now, but 95% of the time I don't even notice. It's constantly there, a high pitched ringing sound. A little like the hum of an old CRT tv/monitor, mostly in the left ear.

Avoid too much stress, using headphones, loud music, etc and it generally doesn't flare up. If you must go to a festival or something, noise dampening ear plugs are very effective.

I've had it for decades. In fact, I know the moment it started: I was being shown how to shoot a 30-06 rifle and my instructor didn't warn me about how damn loud it was going to be. Didn't even offer me hearing protection.

Not much of an instructor, I know.

Anyway, I've had it since the instant I pulled that trigger.

Mine is exacerbated by loud noises: concerts, loud traffic, jet engines, etc.

AFAIK, there's no real treatment other than masking it with white noise machines or similar. That frustrates me, because I want the problem fixed, not just covered up. But apparently there's no fix. :(

For those who don't have it, it sounds like a constant 10 MHz tone. It never goes away. (At least, that's what my tinnitus sounds like anyway.)

Makes me wonder if mine started the day young me and my stupid friends were in my car and one of the kids was lighting firecrackers and throwing them out the window. The other kid did it but his window was closed lol.

I didn’t even hear the loud bang - all I heard was beeeeeeeep.

Lived my whole life..More than half a century...Went to numerous metal concerts that were ridiculously loud, -too many to count(Ac/DC, Sabbath, Judas Priest, BOC, Metallica, Riot, etc, etc)...Work in a loud environment without ear protection...Played with all kinds of other stuff that makes very loud noises...No issues..

And what happens??

I get this shyt from taking an antibiotic!! And I never take meds...Go figure...

Been to specialists...I basically have to live with it...Its not that bad during the day as background noise cancels it out...Night, if I am not tired sucks..

My only advice to anyone that doesn't have it, is take my example and study the side effects list of any med you take...If it says could cause tinnitus, then you may want to think twice about it, or at least question your MD before you take it..

TFY

That very much may have been the trigger. A sudden loud noise can do damage to the sound-sensitive cells in the cochlea (an organ in the inner ear that kinda looks like a snail's shell).
