Weights before cardio or cardio before weights??

Recommended Posts

I need opinions on if it’s more important to do weights before cardio or cardio first, then weights? Does it it matter? I love doing the treadmill first then weights but I keep hearing I should do weights first.

I thought you should so them on different days so clearly I'm no help.

Before any exercise you need to do some stretching / warm up. When I first started & the weights really scared / intimidated me I would walk on the treadmill for 5 minutes before starting my weights. I needed that to get in the right head space.

Cardio first then weights.. What is your goal?

Tone/muscles

lose weight

Remember you can't do both

Tone/muscles must be feed 6 times a day. 3 regular meals and 3 snacks.

lose weight

3 low carb, low, sugar (best no sugar), no oils, no vinegar, no salt, no rice meals. Stay away from banana too fatty.. Grab a whole fresh pineapple instead.

As a former personal trainer, I’d recommend strength training before cardio. Your body will first use the glycogen stored in your muscles. This fuel source is easier to burn so it will provide more explosive power needed for powering through resistance exercises. Once your body uses glycogen, you will start burning fat which is not as refined, aerobic exercises are better for low intensity movements for an extended period of time, such as long distance running.

Think of it like jet fuel (glycogen) compared to crude oil (fat). Jet fuel burns much faster but gives you much more power. You will need that power if you are doing high intensity strength training. Doing cardio first will waste your precious glycogen.

Cardio just fast pace exercise. You should speed-up metabolism first just drop in a very large mushroom or speed up on a bike then start pumping iron.
