What does it mean when you have a ball in your breast?

Recommended Posts

I am having a big problem and I don't know if it's just my head messing with me or what. I've had a small ball under my armpit, on my breast for way over 2 years. It has never bothered me until now. I don't know if it started to hurt because someone told me it could be bad or because it actually is causing pain. I keep thinking about it even though I try not to. At the time I can't go to the doctor because I am STILL waiting for my health benefits to kick in :( Could it be something that is not bad or is it always bad when it comes to having lumps and balls in your breast? You guys I am really freaking out!!! I have it in my head 24/7 since the lady at the Cancer Association told me it can be something real bad. :(

They say if it's painful, it's a good sign. You seriously need to have it checked out though (when your bennies kick in). Some people are more nodular (like me!!!) and a lot of women have fibrocystic breast disease (not anything too serious).

Did you find it, or did it point itself out to you, with the pain?

it COULD be bad, as well as it COULD be nothing, but you do not know yetr.

Your lymph nodes are in the area under your pits.....so it may be some sort of blockage from thatt.

it could also be a cyst.....i have one on my back, near my arm pit.

it could be a fatty tumor, are cancerous.

You HAVE to get it looked at!

you can prob. go to a low cost clinic.

I found it a few years back while I was shaving but it never ever hurt until now so now am freaking out and my brain is working overload  I just don't want it to be something bad. Why do you say it's a good sign if it hurts?

Idunno, that's just something I've heard over the years, working in the medical field. My mom has lymphoma, hers never hurt.

lRB is right, it could just be a lymph node. It's on your underarm/breast area? Do you have any sores on your head or anything? Any infections?

Under your arm? Pain? Most likely a lymph node.

Mine do that, especially when my allergies kick in. Mostly my arm pit and neck lymph nodes.

However, IIWY, I'd get a mamogram just to be safe.

Yes they are. Why?

Now about the mammogram.. I'm scared to get one because they say that when you have one done and you are too young it can be bad.

Naive, are you sick anywhere? It could just be a swollen gland, even if it's just sinus drainage or a sore on your scalp. It really sounds like your glands are swollen. That usually calls for antibiotics.

When does your healthcare kick in?

cause it is most likely you are fighting off a cold or infection of somesort and your glands are sore.....you have them in your neck, your arm pits, your groin....and maybe somewhere else?

anyways, they help your kidneys filter toxins out of your body, and these glands can get sore and swell when they are "working" out infections and colds and allergins.

so it may just be inflammed and sore cause if that, and i would assume it should stop hurting in a few days to a week, BUT get it checked when you get health insur.

Could you do an online search to see if there are any free health clinics available in your area?

How 'bout your folks?...Maybe they have a general practitioner they could take you to see just for an initial check? I know if it were my daughter, I'd drag her kicking and screaming into that office if she informed me she had a lump. As a matter of fact…I did!!

It may not be anything to panic about, but you really shouldn't procrastinate about these things. If it does turn out to be something more serious, you don't want to put things off until it's too late. This forum is no place for medical second-guessing.

Shoot --- get your ars down here and I'll drag you to the d*mn doctors myself!

But if it's cancer and they detect it early enough it's definitely better. You should go to a good doctor who will decide if a mammogram is necessary or not.

Do women in the States not have regular check-up with their gyno? (I should have them, too, but I hate going to doctors. :o )

Naive, Enigma is absolutely right.

If you're anything like me, it will CONTINUE to be in your head until you have it checked by a doctor. I agree that it sounds like it's probably a lymph node, but you'll never know until you get it checked. I recently had a "ball in my neck" that I worried and worried about, but I recently went to the doctor and it WAS a swollen lymph node. No more worries.

I would not wait until your insurance kicks in to have it checked. As a previous poster said, find a low-cost clinic in your area. Call a local hospital for a referral (they may even have a low-cost clinic on site) and go as soon as possible.

This is not to alarm you--like I said, what you describe sounds like it's normal and nothing will come of it--but you should get it checked. What happened to my friend's brother has taught me to always go to the doctor if I'm worried, regardless of whether I'm insured or not. My friend's brother had a lump in his neck and was feeling tired, but he was uninsured. He was waiting until he got a job that had insurance before he went to the doctor. Six months later, he was hired with insurance benefits. He finally went to the doctor and found out he had Hodgkin's lymphoma. Had he gone to the doctor months before when he first knew something was wrong, his full recovery would have been almost certain. As it stood, he was in the advanced stages. He died within a year at 25.

Debt is bad. Death is worse. Don't mess with your health, ever -- there are folks out there who can work with you.

Now I am even more scared after searching on the net about that disease sophia mentioned and now I am more paranoid than ever. In my head all the signs point to that now. All the symptoms are accurate!!! I am just so worried. My bf/h told me to go to the doctor on wed. and that he will pay for the check up but it seems like years until wed. Plus, they are only going to do a routine check up then they are going to want to send me to a specialist and I definitely do not have money for that neither does he :o

It could be a cyst. I just had an 18 centimeter paratubal cyst removed from around my right fallopian tube. Hurt like hell at one point, let me tell you.

Babygirl, you should have a county health department that has a low/no cost clinic. That's where I go (b/c I have no health insurance right now, I'm on medicaid). From there they can refer you to specialists (that's how I got to see my new neurologist), and you CAN negotiate with the hospital, as every one I've been to offers medical care for the uninsured on a sliding scale. You just need to have proof of your income and they calculate a percentage, or you get a payment plan. Don't let it go, though. It's better to get things taken care of.

Don't waste your time/money on a general checkup. Tell the doctor in advance exactly why you are seeing him/her so they can focus the exam on the particular problem. They might NOT send you to a specialist and may be able to do a thorough exam in the office. Make a doctors appointment with a doctor that can do that. There are many low-cost and even free clinics around for those who qualify, and payment plans for those who don't.

Don't keep putting it off because stress can make things worse. Wouldn't it be great to know that it's nothing and you can stop worrying!

I put off and put off and put off because I have no insurance. I'm fighting breast cancer now. I still don't have insurance, I'm still the sole support for my family, and I'm making payments as best I can. You know what? The hospital and a couple of the labs are drastically reducing my costs because they understand my financial situation. They are working WITH me! You can do this too.

Your bf sounds great -- he's offering to help you financially and he is your support system. The fear is far worse then the doctors visit or treatment--if any. GO!

Unfortunately my mom is dead and my dad does not care.

then we'll play the role of Clucking Mother Hen: Go, get it checked out. There's a good possibility that it's something minor, but because you are aware of it, it's going to grow in your mind into something more and more scarier every day you put it off.

I've had a lump on my jaw (makes one side look even MORE square than before), it's like some squashed a marshmallow and shoved it under my skin, but the only time it hurts is when I've got sinus problems, but the pain is more of an ache than a sharp pain. I've had the damned thing for almost 10 years, but my doctor isn't worried, says it's just a lymph node that stayed plump because of my continual sinus problems. and those are tied into the weather.

you say your lump is under your arm, and to the side, going into breast tissue? it could be a swollen lymph node; if it were on the top part of your breast (looking face on at it), it's sometimes as simple as a cyst brought on by too much caffeine intake.

either which way, don't put it off too much longer because your health is the most important thing you have ...
