No growth since 16..Is it too late now?

Recommended Posts

I'm a 23 year old male with the body of a 16 year old as I look exactly the same when I was 15 or 16. There's absolutely no difference at all in height and my body. I'm 170 cm tall (My parents are short too ) and weight 65 kg. I've been wondering why I look the same and It could be due to my life style and I wanted some insight on this. Growing up, I haven't spent much time exercising, playing outdoor sports. I spent most of my high-school years playing video games. I started smoking everyday at 19. I have had severe anxiety, depression from the past 4+ years. I have been drinking a lot from the past 1 year. To be specific, I've been drinking 180-250ml vodka or whiskey every single day from the past 6 months. I don't have a healthy diet. I've finally started looking for a shrink and I'm trying to get better but my petite body and height makes me feel down.

I've read alcohol, anxiety and smoking can stunt growth and lessen the production of growth hormones. I have stopped drinking, smoking and I'm trying to have a healthy diet now. Is it still possible to grow? I hate looking like a 15 year old. What can I do about it?

-Stop drinking

-Stop smoking

-Get your diet in order. There's so much information around on how to eat for growth.

-Get your hormones checked out. At 23 your hormones should be buzzing.

-Start weight lifting using proper technique. See the EliteFts webpage; the education there is almost totally free and great.

If all it took was proper nutrition and living right, then NBA and NFL players would probably be 5 feet tall...A good percentage of them lived in poverty during their growing years..

Outside of pituitary dysfunction, we are all predetermined to a specified height/body type....Genetics as they say...

Of course live your life healthy and eat right and exercise regularly..Dump bad habits like drug use and smoking....

You will feel better and be healthier, just don't expect a miracle like a mid 20's growth spurt...

Avg height fine. I'm taller and like smaller/petite girls but usually couldnt date them due to "size complications"

If you're thin, it's not too difficult to start bulking up. You just have to be committed AKA cut out the **** that's been mentioned.

You'll gain mass and I'm sure you'll be impressed by what accomplishments you achieve. You can affect change.

Height is determined genetically. At 23 you're long done with growing in height (15-16 sounds about right for male, for females even earlier).

Weight, muscle mass etc you can change with proper nutrition+exercise. Get a personal trainer (or make a common sense plan yourself - better than nothing).

Alcohol and cigarettes in conjunction, in the doses that you mentioned, will disable you or kill you sooner than later. You know that. Find an addiction specialist and a psychiatrist to address your other issues.

Btw you sounds like a height/weight proportional man. The body is not your problem. Your addictions are.

You're the same height and weight as my husband. Hubby certainly doesn't have the body of a 16yo and I doubt you do either.

You need to change your addictions. Stop the booze and cigarettes, and replace them with IRON. You remind me of me. I am taller, but i was a bean pole. So i started lifting. I went to the gym, and used only free weights. I watched the monsters. I learned from them. I asked them questions. I would look at the monsters, and tell myself i would be bigger than them....

I ate properly. When i started lifting, i struggled with 135 lbs. my max bench was 385, and i could military press 245. I was benching 300 even into my mid 40's.

I am now 55. I still lift. I cant do as much, but i still lift with the same intensity. Yes... I still look good!

This is what you must do. Push yourself, set goals, squash them, and set more goals. Something happens to you on this journey. It goes deeper than being a weightlifter. It changes your whole life, in positive ways you cannot begin to imagine. Then... You become the mentor... You help the young man who has a drinking problem... Drug problem... Whatever problem.

Get fired up. Change your life.. NOW!

The block of granite that was an obsticle to the weak, becomes a stepping stone to the strong...
