Running is the pits....

I used to love running as a good source of losing weight

and staying fit. But i'm starting to hate it now.

I'm not overweight anymore, and regulated my eating habits

so i'm slimmer now. But i haven't exercised in a while and stopped

walking to work cuz I started getting busier at work and things

have been hectic...But i've been feeling pretty sluggish lately and

slow.

So i finally walked the track last night and ran one lap at a nice

comfortable pace and now i wake up feeling like a hangover. AND,

i now have a pain in the ball of my right foot when i walk. UGGGGH.

Everything on me aches right now.

I barely pushed it, i'm not overweight, i'm in my early 30's, I don't

smoke, I don't drink, I have new running shoes, what the heck?

Should I just stick to walking? Does it even do anything?

There are two good reasons to run:

1) Something big and ugly is chasing you, or

2) You're chasing something small and pretty. :bunny:

But seriously, fast walking's great and low-impact. Swing a 20 lb dumbell in each hand if you want to burn more calories.

Did you stretch it out before and after your workout?

My Muay Thai trainer swears by foods high in magnesium to avoid next-day aches.

I sorta like the pain myself... makes me feel like I've done something meaningful to my body :p

I'm seriously contemplating getting a bike to ride

everywhere. good cardio easy on the knees and feet.

I've never been a dude who can just bounce into exercise

without some sorta minor injury. Stupid stuff too, where i'll

barely (and i mean barely) push myself and feel some sort of

pain the next day in my knee or in my foot or what have you.

I think low impact is the way to go for me until i can get in

good shape.

I think you pushed too hard too fast.

You can still get pain if your bike isn't properly fitted, and this includes cleats (for the hard core cyclist). I am experiencing some knee pain myself, but hopefully it will be resolved in a few weeks.

Maybe you should consider cross-training with both cycling and running. You can throw in a jump rope for good measure.
