Could This Get Someone In Trouble?

Do you think someone would get in trouble if they discreetly forwarded evidence to a cheater's spouse that they were being cheated on, such as videos that were filmed with their consent of them having sex?

Do you mean civil or criminal trouble? The answer may depend on how these consensual videos were obtained by the forwarding party...

There used to be a show called 'Cheaters' on TV and PI's have routinely provided video/photo evidence of infidelity. Time-honored tradition.

In today's environment unless there's bodies nothing will happen outside of the social aspects. However, if you're talking the DA banging one of his/her subordinates, well.... ;)

Either I suppose.

The forwarding party = the affair partner.

Just because someone allows their lover to film a video of them does not mean they give consent for that video to be passed on to anyone else. That does not sound very different to me than revenge porn. There are laws in some countries against revenge porn. I expect there will be laws in the future about distributing private videos without consent too. I don't know what the laws are in your country.

While I hate the idea of anyone cheating on a partner, why would anyone want to send the cheated-on partner a video of the betrayal? What is the intention here? Is is to prove that they are being cheated on? Surely they could just be told or messaged and the rest left up them. Whether it is a good idea to tell a partner they are being cheated on is another issue as well.

I can see no good in sending private videos in this situation. It may well be a breach of privacy under the law.

Edit. I see that it is the affair partner who is thinking of sending the video. I suppose the affair partner will know if she gave consent or not, but undoubtedly the husband would not be giving consent for the video to be forwarded to his wife. Why would you want to? If you want to tell her, why not do just do that?

Sharing videos of sexual activity without the consent of both parties would lead you to a whole lot of trouble. If anyone shared images of me having sex - no matter what the situation - I wouldn't hesitate to press charges.

It would seem you could achieve the same results by forwarding a portion of the video without sex and including an explanation or confession.

Anything more feels like cruel and unusual punishment...

The answer really depends on your jurisdiction, OP, as far as legal ramifications go. It's certainly a very risky move.

As for other kinds of trouble, yes of course, there could be consequences for the affair partner who sends it. You don't know how the recipient is going to react, nor how the cheater will react when they realize they've been outed. This isn't just a "don't shoot the messenger"-type situation; the messenger is the other person having sex with someone else's partner. That isn't always met with a "hey, thanks for letting me know!" response from the betrayed party.

Why are thinking of resorting to this, specifically? Do you not have any other less-graphic proof of inappropriate behavior from the cheater?

The police/law may be the least of your problems....I'd be very careful there...

TFY

I agree, dangerous.

Even the meek and mild may be driven to violence here.

The affair partner should not be the one informing the BS of the infidelity (a bit hypocritical) and videos are just cruel anyway.

How can the poor BS ever unsee that? Years of therapy ahead potentially..

Why do you want to do this? What is the motive?

Surely there must be some other less-violating evidence available that would serve the same purpose.

Generally there is stronger impact if sending sexual content evidence to a male spouse. That's where it's good, healthy and safe to have a deadman switch. It also makes for a great honey trap if wanting to take the individual off the gameboard, a third party solution (the party not being involved in the affair, rather using it as a tool)

In any event, such evidence, or even clear but less graphic evidence, are a great way to sealing the end of any affair. BTDT. Works great. If concerned about safety, anonymous methods exist.

If it is a close friend - do it. You owe them your loyalty. If it is not a close friend, stay away from it and protect yourself. It comes down to your relationship with people....legal issues don't play into it much, because there is usually a way to send stuff anonymously.

It is the affair partner who wants to send the video, I doubt the close friend will be very happy to find their best buddy is sleeping with their husband /wife...and that they have kindly attached a nice video of them ****ing.

I got it now. In that case, if it is the OP and their partner doing it...well the OP is already a disloyal friend and should go hide somewhere. Sending a video would risk your life if you are sending it to a husband. Even if sending it to a female, it is risky. I found out years ago that my ex-girlfriend was cheating on me with another woman. I successfully ruined that ex's life and career before I left the state. Women can be very vindictive.

How did you manage to ruin her career and life? Have you regretted doing that?

How...that's a secret. I was going to marry her, she stabbed me in the back. Regrets? Never. Play with fire - get burned. Cheating is a bad idea.

Hi Folks I wonder if any of you have visited SI and read the thread 'Life after death'. It deals with this topic and is a spectacular read. Just saying.
