Holocaust Denial and Love

burning 4 revenge

So my sister has been seeing this 23 year old kid who goes to the university where she takes graduate classes. She seems quite taken with him and says he's really intelligent and interesting and she also finds him very attractive, but he has one major flaw...he thinks the Holocaust was a conspiracy of the Zionist controlled media. He happens to have been born in France and I know how anti-semitic a lot of those Frenchies are, so maybe she should cut him some slack, I don't know. She's really bothered by it though.

Would this be a dealbreaker for you?

The fact that he is from France should be deal breaker enough for her.

But on a serious note, the fact that he denies the holocaust existed just because he hates Jews shows he is an imbecile...and why would she want to date the cerebrally impaired?

If he was insistent and wouldn't discuss it, it would be a deal breaker for me, but I'm Jewish.

one thinking that... so what? No it wouldn't be a deal breaker for me... We're all allowed our own opinions... Plus I think that at 23, he probably just had a class about this subject, or read a book about this and now he thinks he knows everything about the Holocaust... and likes to pretend he's a specialist...LOL

I completely refuse to talk about certain topics with my lovers, friends or family: politics and religion, because if we can all have very different personal views and it can be very frustrating and leads to unecessary arguments so I avoid those discussions...maybe she should do the same.

I think that your comment - I know how anti-semitic a lot of those Frenchies are - is just as racist.

I thought at first he was just saying things for shock value like I like to do from time to time, but she says he's dead serious. He also owns a bunch of guns and has questionable friends. I think she's attracted to his looks and charisma, but is worried about his character.

I don't think you need to be Jewish to have reservations.

The French aren't a race.

No, but it steps it up a notch in terms of how it would impact a relationship.

Maybe they should go on a date to Auschwitz and she should show him the gas chambers.

Or, for a more local option, the Holocaust museum. I wonder what he would say about the pictures of the piles of dead bodies? Does he believe that the numbers are exaggerated or that nobody was killed at all?

I agree he sounds like a creep, but I don't think he's a lunatic on the level of the Columbine guys. He's not an introvert, just the opposite. But he seems to have some of those conspiracy-type right wing friends and he's into guns and thats so not my sister. She says he's not a Nazi, but I'd bet when he gets with his pals they're into it. I believe a big part of this is youthful rebellion and wanting to be a part of things against the percieved establishment, but she's 28 and so I'm thinking maybe she should take a pass here.

It would be a deal breaker for me, but I'm Jewish so I'm probably biased. I find this viewpoint very offensive because of the amount of lives that were taken, so I know I wouldn't be able to put up with that. As someone said earlier, he sounds like one of those people that reads a book about a subject and then considers himself a specialist. Well, I know of a bunch of books he could read about the Holocaust to actually educate himself about what really happened. Sorry, but this just really irritates me...I don't understand why people deny this event when there's so much evidence there to prove that it happened; diary accounts, pictures, actual footage, not to mention all of the people that "magically" disappeared. How does he explain this?

From his viewpoint, I would consider him not only ignorant but insensitive and anti-Semitic. So, yes that would be a dealbreaker for me since I wouldn't want to be with someone like that.

Not really. But I do think the holocaust occurred, its really the reasons WHY it occurred that get can get murky.

I mean one doesn't usually go around killing millions of people just for fun.

Yeah, that was what the rest of us thought the motive was, Alpha. We thought it was just for fun, like going to Six Flags.

Six Million Over Eastern Europe. That's what we thought it was. So thanks for clearing that up.

Read his post again. It implies that the REASONS for the Holocaust may have been justified. He doesn't deny that it happened though.

See, taken by itself, his comment here is bordering on the offensive but if you've read past posts of his, you will know than he's an anti-semite.

And back on topic, I really thought this thread was a joke. I saw a thread earlier that had to do wth what is and isn't a "deal breaker" in a relationship. I thought this was a parody of that thread.

If your sister stays with someone like that she's a fool (if this is really a genuine situation and not your attempt to be funny).

This kind of hate, and don't be fooled because his denial of such a horrible part of our history speaks of a deep hatred which almost always manifests itself in more direct and "in your face" ways. Your sister will find that out if she sticks around.

I have experience with this. Please tell her to stop seeing him.

(And if this was all a parody of the thread I mentioned, go fruck yourself!:p )

I guess it depends on the circumstances. I would imagine that if I dated a black woman it might be a bit of a hard sell if I told her that I thought that slavery was a fabrication; it might be otherwise inconsequential if she wasn't black and didn't really care about the issue one way or the other.

Your sister's Jewish, though, right? So yeah, I would imagine it's a big f*cking deal to her - and it looks like Pierre picked the wrong girl to start blathering about one of his conspiracy theories to.

Trialbyfire

Denial of traumatic history usually has deep-seated reasons. I would be concerned with anyone who is capable of deluding themselves to this extent.

It would raise big red flags for me.

Who knows if the holocaust occurred, what I do know is any one I've ever met who made a point to make the statement that it didnt hated Jews. So yes hes probably a racist and hates jews and might even think the world would be a better place if they all died. Later on when he does some thing much worse this could be one of the red flags you see so clearly in hind sight

If I may speak for B4R for a minute..hope he doesn't mind. No, his sister isn't Jewish. Neither is B4R.

That being said, I think there's a reason why his sister has an attraction for this guy.

That's all I'll say.

he thinks the Holocaust was a conspiracy of the Zionist controlled media.

I suppose you can have an opinion on whether the "Zionist controlled media" made it seem like a bad thing that all those Jewish people were rounded up and murdered. But documented facts are documented facts - concentration camps are facts, Jewish prisoners tattooed with numbers are facts, and the piles of dead bodies are facts. You can't opine that the media made up all those facts; you can't interpret the death of millions of Jews as anything other than the death of millions of Jews.

Seeing as there was so much less media in 1940-1945 than there is today, I think the 23 year old kid is applying today's filter to past events...at best. At mid-range, I'd say he's gullible and is buying into conspiracy-theories because that's "cool" among his friends, just like the guns. At worst, I'd say he's a f*cked-up idiot and probably somewhat boring and perhaps even dangerous.

Yes, this would be a deal-breaker for me. I couldn't have a rational discussion with someone who buys into conspiracy crap like that.

I absolutely agree with you on all counts.

And KMT, I completely agree with you and I love your direct style.
