Not attracted to the usual women who are into my activities

Hi,

So I've been going through a unexpected time that has made me reevaluate some of my relationship and dating life (as well as life in general). Details in this thead http://www.loveshack.org/forums/transitioning/friends-lovers/653162-dated-briefly-then-7-years-best-friends-suddenly-heartbroken

I'm very active in the outdoors and tend to spend a lot of my free time pursing what many people would consider extreme adventures. My idea of good trip sometimes involves helicopter drops, foreign countries and lots of gear. I have tons of friends in that world and it's an awesome lifestyle that I wouldn't give it up for anything. However it's a difficult world to meet women in, both because it tends to skew heavily toward men and the women who do enjoy extreme outdoor pursuits often tend to be shall we say less than feminine. Unfortunately I'm not attracted to the more rough and tumble no-makeup girls. A trucker cap, T-shirt and no curves just doesn't work for me.

My recent experience with falling (unrequited) for my non-outdoorsy best friend as detailed in the other thread has made me think about if I should be looking for a more girly-nerdy type women who has enough going on to give me time and space for my activities or hold out possibility forever for an outdoor girl who I'm attracted too, compatible with and has enough intellectual pursuits to be interesting, which seems really unlikely. Perhaps the odds are a lot better of finding a more conventional feminine women, but also worried I could get bored with her or her annoyed with my being away a lot.

My advice would be to keep an open mind about it rather than sort women into boxes. Maybe you would be attracted to an adventure type if you can see past her active attire. She might look stunning and feminine in a different setting and then you would realise attraction. And there is no reason that you can’t find someone feminine who is also intelligent and not clingy who is happy to do other things while you go being action man. You might find compatibilities elsewhere. Why do you think it is unlikely ?
