I follow crime and police stuff. All I do on Twitter is follow crime stuff and then dogs and cats and animals! And you'd be amazed how often those two things intersect!

I made my bones on a case of abused/starved livestock. It was my first jury trial (I was scared as hell ) and on appellate review the court agreed to a warrant exception for abused animals. I also wound up being a defendant in a civil rights lawsuit.

I still have the verdict form on my office wall. Took 'em 20-25 minutes.

Yuck. Crimes against defense animals are awful.

No. I mean, police tend to tweet a lot of dog photos. Some are working dogs. Others are not.

Good on you! Nothing makes me madder than abusing animals.

That's nice but really? Do law enforcement in Texas not have enough to do then give out love advice & tweet dog photos?

Well, it's not just Texas. But internet crimes are the purview of the FBI, so they study all that. It's interesting. They are just saying what are the red flags of a scammer and things like that we take for granted, but a new naive young person doesn't know.

On the dog side, K9 officers have grown exponentially, so there's a lot of that. But other stuff too. You know, just like me following crime, it can bring you down, so you HAVE to do something that makes you smile to balance it. And I think that's why law enforcement so often retweet those types of things just like I do. Cute dogs and cats cheer everyone up. Also, they will run stories where they rescued different ones. I'm grateful that at least some of them have an interest in that.

They've done some really great work in the last couple of years on human trafficking, especially down in South Texas. I read the details and it's real interesting how all that stays underground. The leaders never do anything incriminating themselves but use, often, women to do the risky things, like booking motels, driving, etc. It's a big organized crime type thing. If I had a teen and she went missing, I'd never sleep again.

They failed to win on a local crooked councilman here in my town recently though. I think it was a jury issue.

Have you seen the news from yesterday? A whole bunch of longhorns were found starving in Aquilla, TX (near Hillsboro), and 50 were already dead. The Humane Society of North Texas has them and is trying to get donations to feed them. Can you imagine? I mean, why couldn't they just sell longhorns? I don't know, maybe they're mainly decorative or something. Hideous.

I think it’s their way of trying to connect with the community

It is. They want people to realize they're just human and they want to build rapport -- plus they love dogs.

Is this the Fed's way to get new dates? Just "checking things out, making sure the public is safe..." :p

They would have to publish something like this after I finally went out on my first internet "meeting." I live right by the Texas border too...Well, guess I am back to meeting men the antique way. J/K I'm content for now.

Thanks for the information though. Have a great Valentine's Day everyone! I have a date with my son.
