Moving to canada?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, I need some advice on moving to canada.

If anyone lives in canada or has been to canada your advice would mean a lot. So I'm planning to move to vancouver, canada soon and was wondering about what it is like, how are the people there and just generally the quality of life there. Also, any advice on making new friends in a different country? I'll be moving over by myself and I don't know anyone there.

Thanks

Why Vancouver? Have you researched the City and the weather? Many people can't handle the many gray days and continuous rain. As beautiful as it is there, just be sure that's the right place for you.

Google immigration Canada and find out what you need to know before moving here.

People are nice, we love our hockey and do say eh a lot. :p

I'm Canadian but I don't live in Vancouver.

Why have you chosen Vancouver? It is beautiful with a rich culture, beautiful scenery and plenty of diversity. However there is a lot of rain, it rains all winter and you can go many days in a row without seeing the sun. More importantly it is a very expensive city to live in. Housing and rental fees are sky high so you need to know that you will be able to afford the cost. Do you have a job lined up there and is it a well paid job? Even the surrounding areas are expensive so that is something you really have to consider.

I like the suggestion of searching Immigration Canada for information. Also if you are planning to rent there is a popular website named Rentfaster. Just about everyone who has a place for rent lists it on that site so just google rentfaster and when you're on the site search for listings in Vancouver. If you are planning to buy then search Vancouver MLS listings. That will give you some idea of what you will be spending on housing.

All Canadians pay 5% GST on goods and services so if you pick out $100 worth of groceries when you get to the till and GST is added it will be $105. On top of that BC has a 12% provincial sales tax which adds to the high cost of living in that province. You will love Canada and you will love Vancouver but definitely make sure you do your research first so you don't wind up disappointed.
