White lies

Recommended Posts

So during the time I've spent on OLD it's been a curious thing to me that I've seemed to see so many tall women. Compared to what is supposed to be the average of around 5'4", I'd say the rough average I see is around 5'7". Then today I came across my flatmates dating profile on POF and lo and behold she's listed at 5'7" - and she is never an inch over 5'5". Utterly bizarre.

This is the first time I've heard of a woman (v. a man) saying she was taller on OLD, but sure, people lie about height, among other things. I think I met one man on OLD who hadn't lied about his height, LOL. He was 6'4".

Men also seem to lie a ton about age (to seek younger women and/or broaden their range) and about wanting a relationship even if they don't because asking for just sex isn't as successful. And of course there's weight. I think both genders lie like hell about that.

This is the internet. You're surprised that people are lying?

P.s. I'm 5'1" and have never felt the need to lie and say I was taller. I love being little. I can see a man's motivation from a competitive OLD standpoint (though I myself am attracted to very short men...just a "thing" I have) but am mystified at a woman lying in this direction unless she's trying to get a foot in the door for a modeling job. Oh well...who knows. Are you sure she was shorter than she said? How do you know? Did you push her back against one of those "You must be THIS tall to ride this ride" sign?

Now HERE'S a way to get your foot in the door: "I'm 5'6". Lying down."

Kinda amazing because I would think a woman >5'9 might find their pool of interested men declining.

I had assumed they were exaggerating their height to put off shorter men from messaging them. That seems like the only logical reason.

Well I was just stood in the kitchen talking to her, I'm 5'9" so I can quite easily judge her height relative to mine. She is never 5'7".

Oh, I get it now.

Okay, so...why didn't you ask her?

I'm proudly 5'6 and 3/4th. But I've listed 5'7" in my online profile before.

I do appear taller due to my model length long legs.

I am actually. I haven't got a single falsehood on my profile. I mean I see a lot of women around who have clearly pit on a lot of weight since the photos their dating profile portrays but that's not a flat out lie. Oh and a lot of women are listed as one age and on their profile they say 'I'm actually 41 but I'm being matched with men who are too old'.

I'm actually 5'1 1/4" but I never add in that 1/4. I love love love being small. And men from 5'4" to 6'4" have had no problem with it, ever. But I guess I see what the OP is saying now...these women are apparently lying so they can have taller men? Or one woman, anyway.

Anyway..original question...do people lie on OLD? Well, yeah.

Well until they offer quarter inches on these things I think you're fine.

I have actually heard this from women ^ a lot...25-years-older geezers kept preying on them so they lowered their stated age.

That doesn't excuse it, as it is still lying, but in this case I at least understand the motivation.

As for the lying about weight/posting older/much thinner photos, that is pretty much an equal opportunity thing between the genders. That and the bald guy wearing a bandana in every pic thing.

Really??? I thought that was a guy thing. Haha. I'm 5'7"...5'10- 6' depending on heels I wear. Never got any complaints, but I'd love to be shorter. I think 5'4 or 5'5...that way I could wear taller heels and not be the same height or taller than most men

My sister is almost 5'4" and her husband was (he passed away at only 38) just barely over 5'4"...she never cared one whit but he did...so she wore flats to their wedding.

You wear 5 inch heels? That can't be comfortable.

POF has Thin/Athetic/Average/A few extra pounds.

Also obviously posting photos from 2013 before the Dominos Pizza addiction kicked in is essentially lying about your weight. Now THAT is very common.

I am close to 5'9", which is taller than roughly 50% of the men in this country. I wouldn't date someone that was shorter than me by more than half an inch under any circumstances. My pool has always been smaller due to this. In my home country, average height for men is 5'11". Sigh, I often wish I never moved - but educational and economic advantages in Australia were too alluring.

None of them really are haha...but most of the cute ones are 4" to 4 1/2" :( Which is bad if you're avg female height

But yeah I couldnt care less about a man's height. I don't understand it.

Why would someone lie about their HEIGHT? That is really silly. I have

always considered myself to be somewhat short at 6'1 so I guess everyone

has a certain perception of what tall or short is to them.
