60 and can't get him to call

Recommended Posts

I reconnected with an old flame 2 months ago on FB. I am 60 and he is 59. We live in different states. I've been divorced for 12 years he's been divorced for 3. When we first connected and shared numbers, the texting at first was fine. Just catching up on the past 30 plus years. He also really came on strong initially. Overshared on his life/financial situation, if that was "ok" with me, asked me weird things about my home and the size of my garage...crazy stuff. He want's to retire in FL and it almost felt like an interview in the begging. Anyways, I have asked him to call...have a real conversation every once and awhile and he did...ONCE. We had a bad connection and he never called again. But he'll send me entire text conversations every night. Can you believe at our age texting is an issue!..lol. He wants to take things slow, I want to speed things up. I mean...how much slower can you go than texts???

He wants to see how the relationship progresses....texting. Am I crazy or is that just the dumbest thing ever? He seems very sincere. I just don't think he has a clue on how to "move the relationship forward". Should I just stop texting back and see if he calls me?

I mean..come on. We are grown adults!

Some guys just like the attention and that is all he may want from you. I live in a very large retirement community that covers 3 counties and has over 150,000 seniors. There are 10 women for every man here and the old guys can have different women every night of the week if they want due to the competition between the women. Women are doing things I am sure that they never did in their younger days to get a man.

The problem is that the guys like to make friends with a lot of women but not want to get married again. They can date several woman every week and be treated like gold without marrying them. The women often complain about the men keeping them on the hook but never getting serious about a relationships and marriage.

I used to spend a lot of time overseas on business travel. I enjoyed women hitting on me and would talk to them all night. When they asked to go up to my room, I would tell them that I do not cheat on my wife and they would either say that I was sweet or curse me for wasting their time. Long Distance Relationships fail 87% of the time statistically as it once did for me. It is much too each to meet people online and play games with them until it comes to put up or shut up time. Then they backpedal and I think that is what is happening to you. You also have to consider that his mental condition is not good. There are a lot of men around here who have mental issues. One guy shoot up his neighbor's house because he was in love with her and she would have nothing to do with him because he was married. I can go on and on about the mental issues of guys and women over 60.

Best to meet people in person and then form a relationship. Texting and phone calls only allow you to meet the character they create for themselves and not always their true self.

Sounds almost like he may not be into you, but because he has some money problems, and needs a place to plant himself and his stuff, then he isn't closing the door on you..I dunno..

Don't return his texts as see what he does..

He may have a live in girlfriend he's hiding you from, so he doesn't want to chance a phone call when she's around. Why not just casually ask him if he's been seeing someone. Maybe he'll come clean.

When he starts texting have you asked him if you could call instead? Tell him you would really like to hear his voice.

I'm 40, and I wouldn't find this acceptable!

And all the questions about your financial situation, and how much room you have in your home, along with the conversations about his financial issues...EEEEK. I don't know hun, if I were you, I'd be running away from this one fast!
