No they are there to try to make you look good by pumping up your image....like coming up to a girl you are taking to and say "This is a great guy here..." or jokingly tease by saying "The ladies can't keep their hand off him..better watch out!" A wing man is usually the confident one that will go around introducing you women. And yes distract the c*&^ blockers that might be in the group if needed. 1 Link to post Share on other sites

A wingman is simply a friend for you to go out with because many people are uncomfortable going out alone, especially women. So if you are with a buddy & the woman you like is with a friend, your buddy talks to the friend while you flirt with the woman you like. Having the buddy distract the friend prevents the friend from feeling left out or trying to compete for your attention or worse, encourage the woman you like to leave or at least stop talking to you. Wingmen, more than anything, are there to help you with your game. I guess everyone here giving advice could be considered a wingman of sorts . A good wingman isn't just a +1, or a distraction. carhill Posted April 24, 2016 Share Posted April 24, 2016 I tried this once with an older married male friend who loves women and whom women love and it worked pretty good. He fluffed and I took it from there. We hit on a few mother-daughter pairs and I saw the value in matching up the group and keeping all engaged and included. He always wore his wedding ring so there was no ambiguity about him being married. He's like a big ole huggy grandpa that everyone liked to hug. Good wingman. I'm not really interested in that stuff but did try it and it did work, with him anyway. I think him being married helped. Link to post Share on other sites

jen1447 Posted April 25, 2016 Share Posted April 25, 2016 Personal views of that job notwithstanding, in the broad sense it's bscly a social crutch. I like to go out alone sometimes (when I'm 'on the hunt') specifically to avoid that look - it sends a message of confidence and competence that you're comfy enough to do that and don't feel like you have to rely on social backup. And it's not only women who can get away with that. The main thing that'll make a guy look like a creepy stalker is actually giving off a creepy stalker vibe, not just being alone.
