Guys with their shirts off

In online dating those who screen who they want to reply to, give number to, or accept a date from do so for many reasons.

So for the ladies who online date.....

Would you respond to a guys message who one of their profile pics has his shirt off? Why or why?

Also would you give out your number or accept a date from him? Why or why not?

Is the no shirt on in pictures a deal breaker when it comes to online dating?

Well if he's at the beach or by the pool, in a more natural setting and not a shirtless kind of selfie, I will have no problem in that.

Makes total sense. But in a non beachy setting and just random selfie with the shirt off is a no go for you? If so why is it a no go? Thank you for your answers.

It is incredibly tacky. Bathroom selfies are the worst of the worst. Invariably they are poor quality and show your dirty bathroom and dirty mirror, you have a dumb expression on your face, staring at the phone screen. No, just no. Get a set of good quality pics that show you at your best. Not some bad shirtless bathroom selfies.

On the beach in natural poses, fine.

But a contrived bathroom selfie saying "This is my "hot" body, come and get some sex girls" is not fine.

We all know what it is about, but being too obvious is a bit of a turn off.

as Pete says "tacky"

It's not a dealbreaker per se, but my antennae would definitely go up. I'd be less inclined to take a man like that seriously, and more inclined to assume he's a player or a douchebag or just looking for casual sex. I'd more than likely next him. I mean, why can't he find a shirt to wear?

I guess I don't get why someone trying to highlight positive appearance attributes of theirs is some kind of bad thing.

If a girl has a professional-looking picture, all made-up, my response isn't going to be "SHE'S TRYING TO LOOK PRETTY WHAT A HOE". Its going to be "hey, she looks good".

Except that a closer equivalent would be the duck-face selfie, which should rightly get a "next", and maybe a little laughter.

There's nothing wrong with trying to look good or highlight assets. But that's not what OP's asking. He's asking if the SOLE profile photo is sans shirt.

Besides, there's a difference between tastefully presenting yourself and being tacky. To me, a shirtless bathroom selfie screams "look at my abs!" Even a pool-side photo can convey the same. Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I think it's nice to leave some things a mystery (and I would say this of a woman who has a bikini photo on her profile, too). My ex had a rockin' bod, but I didn't know that until we had sex.

What's wrong with a shirtless selfie? You don't buy a Ferrari to park it in the garage.

You would in my town.

I think it's fine if you're say, in a group of friends around a pool or something like that, but if it's plainly obvious you've seen yourself in the mirror and thought, 'Hello... someone's looking hot today... I think I'll just make a little note of that on my phone here... maybe I should just tense these at the same time...' then it's more for yourself than others.

The same goes for women too though, stop duckfacin'!!

The mystery part is a good point, I definitely agree with that. And you're right about the fact that you can do it in a more tasteful way.

But I don't see why people look down on it so much. Like you said, why it is different from a bikini photo, for example. The backlash against it seems arbitrary.

It isn't different from a bikini photo. If a girlfriend of mine used a bikini photo as her one and only OLD profile photo, I'd suggest she choose something else.

It's tacky. It's like saying, "here are the goods, this is the only thing I have to offer!" Cover that ish up. OK, you have a nice body, but that isn't what you need to be selling.

I've been testing my best pictures on photofeeler with only women up to age 25 able to vote. To my surprise, my shirtless bathroom pic has gotten the highest attractive rating lol. It wasn't a selfie and I used a high quality camera not standing in front of the mirror though. I'm pretty fit and my arms are muscular but I don't have a six pack.

Well, yeah, if you're posting shirtless photos to a site where you're letting young women vote on your attractiveness. That outcome is a no-brainer.

I like the no shirt pics, it's good to see what I may be getting, and yes I would respond.

This site lets you upload pictures within three different categories: business, social, or dating. For dating profile pictures they vote based on three qualities: smart, trustworthy, and attractive. With my shirtless pic the smart and trustworthy were low but the attractiveness higher than any other picture I tested.

If you are a man in extremely good shape looking to hook up and not looking for a relationship at all, then this photo is your best best. It will turn off the women looking for a relationship. When I was on OLD, looking to find somebody to truly date, this kind of picture made me skip the profile. This is good for somebody looking for NSA sex, as I would have been a waste of time. And it will attract the women looking to just hook up -- they will be extremely picky and superficial when it comes to physique.

I have to agree. The reason men include these kind of pictures is because they are effective in getting dates. Can't argue with the results.

I think it's rather gauche TBH and I've never liked a guy based on his pecs or abs. But it is indicative of how men think, they would like to [wish they could]see bikini or underwear shots of women to potentially date so they assume women want to see the 'goods' as well..

Yeah well if I was looking for a prize pig to sell at market, okay I suppose that's what I'd like to see. But abs and pecs aren't very high up my list of desirables and shoving them in my face by way of......looky here got the best pecs in the market...tells me a lot about the personality of the person sporting it.

The worst ones though are the guys who do it and have nothing to show off. I'm a bit like....why?

Because, if you have a good body, it'll show. I call it the "hanger" effect. Where, you don't have to be wearing a form fitting muscle shirt, but we can tell if you're slim, athletic, etc by how your clothes hang on you....geesh

I don't like super cut/fit guys either. I like guys like me who are active/athletic, but not slaves to the gym and/or a rigid diet/lifestyle.

Wow I love this topic. Because usually, as a woman, I found it sort of cheap and sleazy, like well he's posting this pic because he views women as a piece of meat. However, I now eat my own words, lol, because one guy had this sort of showing off his arms and chest in his pics and I totally want him!!

No, I wouldn't respond to a guy who had pictures without him wearing a shirt. I find such guys are self-obsessed and have little to offer other than their looks. It doesn't matter how good he looks, he obviously only cares about bodies.
