Do you think it's nosy for my friend to ask this?

Recommended Posts

I told my friend that I use online dating, she asked me if I had any luck with online dating recently. I told her no, and then she said that online dating is hard. I don't know, I just don't think it's any of her business to ask how it's going. I'm not going to ask her how life is with her boyfriend.

Its an innocent question in my opinion.

Then why do you call her a friend?

Friends know about each others life, they ask questions, they care, they advice, they take interest in what you do.

Why did you tell her you use online dating if you don't want her to know anything about your dating life? What was she supposed to say?

If a friend told me they went on a date or used online dating and then I followed up that statement with a question about it and she became offended I would assume I was mistaken about the nature of our relationship and that she isn't really a friend. Good friends can talk about anything and everything. If you don't consider her a good friend and want her to mind her own business then keep your business to yourself. Don't start a conversation and then get offended when the person you're talking to asks you a simple question pertaining to the information YOU just put out there.

When you told her you were doing online dating, what did you expect her response to be? Did you just expect her to say ok and change the subject? She was showing interest in a subject you brought up by asking a question. How is that being nosy at all? Based on your threads you seem to get offended by typical every day things that most everyone does.

Well, next time I won't tell anyone that I use OLD. I just figured it would be left in the dust.

I think your friend asked out of concern for you, because she wanted you to be happy & she was offering an ear if you wanted to talk. It wasn't nosy but supportive. Why did you perceive it differently? Her expression that OLD is difficult shows compassion.

That said, your idea to not tell people you are on OLD is probably a good solution for you if simple inquiries like this upset you so much.

It's perfectly reasonable and I see it as showing an interest. That's what friends do.

I think you're overreacting.

Sounds like you are a little defensive on the subject or you wouldn't mind in the least. This is what friends talk about.

Did you not like the question, or did you dislike the question because of your response? If it's the latter; OLD is known to be tough, so don't worry about it.
