Are guys aged 25-30 vs 35-45 at different stages in life?

Recommended Posts

This is what I assume, guys that are in the 25-30 age bracket don't want to settle down, they want to play the field-love the option of dating a hot 18 year old girl are still into the bar scene/going to happy hours, still waiting for the next hot thing, while those ages 35-45 are no longer wanting to play the field and want to settle down?

Men vary widely and we're not a hive mind. Hence, a young man of 22 can be at a very different stage than an older man of 45, or they could be at exactly the same stage.

Heh, I had to laugh thinking back to when I was 22 and everything was ordered and goals were set and paths laid out and life was on the straight and narrow. Life is far more 'youthful' now at 56. Fµck order :D

This has not been true in my experience. I have dated men ranging in ages from early to mid twenties up to forty plus. Now this is just my observation and not gospel truth: IME The younger ones were more relationship minded. The ones my age or older were fresh off divorce or failed long term relationships and were basically living a second adolescence. They had "been there done that" and all of their love and romance had been used on their ex wives. The younger ones were less jaded and still looking for the One.

You can't really assume an older man is automatically more mature or a younger guy is automatically a player.

Plus I don't agree that there are automatically stages that all people go thru, or even that one is necessarily more mature than another. You could have a 45 year old who's just a free spirit and no intention of ever settling down who's still more mature due to life experiences than a very serious 25 year old who has all sorts of conventional career/life/family intentions.

I've found assumptions to be widely off the mark, generally speaking, IME. Once you've met one wo/man, you've only met that wo/man and what's true for them isn't necessary true for all of them.

Yes exactly! Most of the young families I know, with multiple little children, the dads are all in their 20s. The "men in their 20s can't/won't settle down" thing isn't true. Some might not, but plenty do. I agree it's less the age, more the individual.

And I agree that having a family or traditional trappings doesn't necessarily make a man more mature!

Both your points unintentionally tie together I think. People have limited experiences that create biases and then due to lack of proper contextualization they misrepresent those biases as objective fact. It's not necessarily malicious, they just haven't really seen the other side an don't know it. :)
