Ever approach a woman that ignored you online in real life?

I had read this on a forum thread a while back. There was discussion that how with the disadvantage with online dating is the fact that women could be passing over potential future mates that they would NOT have passed over had they encountered them in person.

We've heard all the stories on here where men send out emails only to be ignored.

Well, there was this one man on POF that stated. he, just like many others, sent an email out to a local lady, only to have it ignored.

One day he was out at some festival and SAW this woman there. He COLD approached her, (didn't wait for eye contact or come hither approach either) and attempted to chat her up.

They actually connected rather well, got her # and they proceeded to date...he didn't mention right off the bat that he had tried to correspond with her online, but later on he did bring it up.

She said, "Wow, had I know how you were online, I would have never ignored you!"

Funny story. It's amazing how many people get passed over in such a fashion. Of course, with tons of emails in their inboxes, it just make sense..and in-person is the way to go.

I've actually bumped into a woman at a local Walgreens in front of me in line..looks like she was going to the beach or something (saw the swimsuit coming out from her tank top). I tried to strike up a conversation with her about going swimming, but she said she was actually going on a boat ride, but she was rather frank and to the point and left.

Anyone men here bump into the ladies they'd seen online in person? Ever use this as an opportunity to approach?

That's a nice story, but I really wish men wouldn't take "getting ignored online" so personally.

When I did OLD, there were lots of reasons a man might have been "ignored" by me other than me "rejecting" him:

-There wasn't enough information in his profile to sway me one way or the other, so he was just neutral to me. It happens! I didn't blow the socks off every man I talked to, either.

-I haven't been online in a while. And when I get back on, even if those old messages are great, I assume it has been too long/will be too awkward to reply. Or he has probably moved on.

-I am currently dating a few guys and not responding to any more messages. I get overwhelmed easily and like to concentrate on a few at a time. It doesn't mean these men are "better" than you; more than likely they were just first.

Also, even if I did "reject" a man who I may have liked in person, it is SUPER HARD to determine someone's personality through some pics and text. I have met men who I had crackling text chemistry but NO in person chemistry. I've had terrible texters with terrible chemistry. I've had terrible texters who I've adored in person! It's all so variable and when I'm initially filtering who to meet online I only have limited tools to make the decisions. Gut feelings are involved too, and they could go either way.

I guess tl;dr, I think people should be cut some slack online.

Online and in email, some people are better than in person and some are worse because they are not good at writing. I think the numbers you hear about (how so many online meets don't work out) point to it being hard to tell if you like a person just by what they say online. You might really like their gift of gab but just not have any attraction for them in person because of not just looks but mannerisms, accents, or manners and hygiene. Or someone might seem bland in writing (I have a fun friend who is just a nonentity online - feels inadequate to write anything- always a lurker) but be bubbly and fun in person.

If you remove the OLD equation then I can definitely relate this to people I know both IRL and on social media. I can think of a handful of people who on social media are funny, erudite and totally engaging. IRL? Utterly socially awkward and who always give me the feeling they'd rather bolt and hide than talk to me. And others who IRL are super funny, intelligent and engaging but their social media personas are sniffy, snarky and rude.

What you see is not always what you get.

I actually did "run into" somebody I recognized from OKC, but we never communicated there. I wasn't interested in her either way, so I didn't do anything. But the woman in the story you told, should be the poster child for the overall ineffectiveness of online dating.

There was a girl who ignored me on POF who I saw at a local Meijer. I don't think she saw or recognized me. She looked much better in her profile than IRL, so I never thought about approaching her. For her to ignore someone like me shows how unrealistically picky people are online.

Wow, that just reinforces the proof that unattractive women have these unrealistic expectations.

Considering the amount of messages females get from OLD.

A girl thats probably a 5-6 in person will think shes an 7-8 from the ego boost and will become very picky because of all her options.

A girl thats a 10 in person? Yeah....online shes untouchable. I have a female friend who is GORGEOUS. She made an account on POF and within a few hours her inbox filled up 3 times, her "people that want to me you" was at 99+ (maxed) and she had over 400 profile views.
