When talking to a woman why do they mention their boyfriend?

Recommended Posts

Is it to let you know they have a boyfriend and it makes them feel safe. Even if they really don't have one.

Most likely to let you know they are unavailable.

Word to the wise: If you here that often times it means they dont like you that way.

Also many times a girl wont mention she has a boyfriend if she feels the guy she is talking is of a higher quality so to speak

She's not interested in dating you, whether she has a SO or not.

It's a nice way to let you know your interests are unwelcome & not reciprocated.

Yep, I've said that before even when I didn't have a boyfriend, just to make it clear I wasn't interested.

It depends on the situation and the woman. Generally, mention of a partner or spouse is designed to discourage sexual advances. However, if/when a woman openly flirts as well as mentions same, she may be inviting competition and/or be interested in hoovering some attention or actually be interested in an affair. Context is important, IMO. I've experienced the gamut.

Because:

1. If you are talking to them then you MUST be hitting on them.

2. They mention their boyfriend as a means of saying "F*** off loser! Don't talk to me, I'm not interested!" so that you'll walk away.

Usually this is if they get the feeling you like them or will hit on them and want to just put it out there in a non-awkward way that they're taken (even if it is a lie) before that happens.

Or, novel concept, it comes up in conversation!

You'll find that when you spend a reasonable amount of time with someone, they come up in conversation a lot, whether it is to deter unwanted advances or not!

So while, yes, it can be because she thinks you're hitting on her and she wants to warn you she's not available, or she doesn't get that impression at all, but because he's such a big part of her life, she ends up mentioning him.

I've had women that are clearly going out of their way to flirt with me bring up guys they're dating. I don't think it really means anything.

But it all depends on the situation, who's initiating the contact, her body language, etc.

When a woman mentions her bf and continues to flirt, she is

EITHER on the look out for a replacement or a cheating opportunity

OR she feels safe to flirt as she has outlined her boundaries.

"I have a bf, I can flirt with you, but this will go no further than harmless flirting, get it?"

Rather than saying "I'm not interested in you/I'm not attracted to you" etc, they use the boyfriend line because most people are decent enough to not chase that which is already taken.
