OLD Apps increase transmission of STD's (or STI's)

VERY interesting article...

It appears that as we move from regular online dating websites to smartphone apps like Tinder and Grindr...comes an increased rate of sexually transmitted disease.

It appears with a brisk "swipe" of the finger an instant hook-up is made and thus this situation.

Seems with online methods of dating, come the consequences, esp. with the increased speed some people are willing to hook-up and get past that whole "let's get to know each other" process.

I didn't read the article but I'm not surprised.

People seem to want things 'right now these days.

You see threads on here of 'he/she said this...what does that mean and does it mean they like me'.

So from those type of questions alone you become aware that this person wants to know now and is impatient about relationships in general.

Early RS's are a day at a time thing for me - but not for many folk.

The fact that rape and sexual attacks are on the increase is also a factor with STIs.

Porn is far more easy to get hold of and much more explicit and over the top than ever before you people see it as normal.

Dating men these days in my own age group they are mostly not interested in going for tests and most have never been tested. They don't tend to like condoms either - so the only option is not to get into a relationship with them.

Condoms are OK- but they don't protect anyone against everything - I've known many people men and women alike who are totally unaware of that.

I have never heard of an app transmitting an STD. I would have thought that you had to be involved in sexual activity for that... Just saying!

Perhaps its more that people are into immediate self gratification these days rather than working for something.

Perhaps its that more people are being very cavalier with their own and other peoples health...

Who knows.

The point is that STD's are out there. Its a really sensible thing to get yourself checked regularly if you are sexually active and to take as many precautions as possible at the same time. I haven't had any sexual contact at all since my last test and I intend to ask the question and ask that they get tested before I have any sexual contact again...

Just because people are using an app to shag around doesn't mean that it is the fault of the app...

:D, yeah, that was the first thought that came to my mind too.

Apps, phones, computers and the internet/telephony industries are tools. People use tools to accomplish goals and implement choices. Hence, we must examine the psychology of the people to find the answer.

Really?? So what are these apps and how do I get one?

If people are getting STDs, that means their scoring. Which apps had the highest STD rates and how do I get signed up?

LoL. I read that article in the supermarket while having a break from shopping and if I remember right, Tinder seemed to be leading the charge in the rise in stds. In my country I think I read that gonorrhea was at all time high (even b4 ABx)

Tinder and Grindr are specifically "hook up" apps. They are targeted towards those who are looking for hook ups more so than OLD apps/sites which are geared towards the more normal process of going on a date and getting to know someone. It's no shock then that people who hook up a lot carelessly (through apps or offline) are at a greater risk for STIs and STDs. The app simply makes them finding people to hook up with a lot easier.

Me for example, I'd never be on Tinder as I've heard all that it's about and know that it's not really for the purpose of serious dating. Since I don't really hook up or try to meet men for sex, I'd never use that. But for folks who are into that anyway it just makes it easier and chances are their sexual behaviors and tendency to practice safe sex isn't affected by the apps. Those who are lax about safe sex are like that regardless of where they meet someone, likewise folks who are careful about their sexual health will be careful no matter if they met a man at the mall or through an app.

I suppose what you could do is try and find out which STD's go with which app and get your stores of medication in ready...!!!

Personally I am with MissBee on this one.

I know a woman who was on tinder (I think it was tinder - she may still be on it) and she slept with about 3 different blokes in a 1 month period... Where she found the time I have no idea!

Really???

She isn't a teenager anymore, has children, work etc... 3 on the go at one time I thought was a bit much... OK if it was one at a time but...

I must be really lax...! Still don't want to sign myself up. Sorry oldshirt your on your own there!!!
