GUYS: Can anyone recommend a good electric razor?

I'm thinking about trying an electric razor. I have a really fast growing, very thick, very coarse beard, combined with sensitive skin.

I currently shave with a Mach3 blade, but I can only shave every 2-3 days or I'll get really bad irritation and ingrown hairs. So, I'm stuck with the stubble look 80% of the time.

I was thinking I'd pickup an electric to shave with in between regular shaves. It seems to me like they'd irritate my face less.

I only tried an electric once and it didn't shave very close, but that was years ago.

A friend has recommended a Braun foil shaver, but I'm scared to spend too much not knowing how it'll work.

thanks!
B

My facial hair is the same, fast growing & thick. I've tried all kinds of razors over the years & electrics just never really worked very well. Oh, they work alright, just doesn't feel like a close shave. And in my experience they pull & tug & hurt! I have a Braun foil razor, same thing there. Now I only use it for the side clipper bit to trim the sideburns, hair around my ears & to keep my beard close (when I decide to have one). Mind you that razor is a few years old so maybe they've improved, but I doubt it.

Because it's a personal hygeine thing (the electric razor I mean) I doubt you'll be able to give it a trial run & then return it if you don't like it, so it could be an expensive experiment.

Using certain products, and shaving in a certain way could help I think with the wet shave. Yes I'm a girlie, and I don't shave my beard. But I did see this Queer Eye for the Straight guy where they showed this guy what products to use, and how to shave and it stopped him getting ingown hairs and rashes etc.

Might be worth a nose around on the internet.

If I remember your photo correctly, BigB, I'd actually say that designer stubble would suit you. You're a nice guy, so you wouldn't look aggressive, but it would give you an edgy look.

Lose a bit of weight too, and I think you'd look

lol, thanks. My GF likes the look of the stubble, she says it makes me look "rugged" or something. She doesn't however like the stubble tearing up her face. I do have to shave for work though. My sideburns are already against the rules.

I'm working on the weight. I'm down to 280lbs. 240ish should be a healthy weight for me. I was at 340lbs at my heaviest.

I'd like to point out that the reason I don't shave my beard is that I don't have one!!!

lol, I actually do know a woman who has to shave her beard. I'm guessing she's got some hormonal issues, but I'm not gonna ask her .

Now that is a scary thought... the bearded woman! It does happen... perhaps you should ask.... she might have some tips for ya!!

Oh no... the news is out...!! Knowing LS I'll be reassured warmly about my new beard and offered friendly advice on coping with it. Should I try NC with my beard?

I use a Braun.. the more expensive the unit the better the cutting heads.
When one wears out I just go buy another ( they last about 5-6 years )
but i always buy a Braun.

Expect to pay 100-130 dollars for a good one that won't pull your hair and will give you a close shave.

then you definitely don't want to use an electric razor. basically they pull the hair out of your skin and they are very rough. I've used both extensively and I'm back to shaving with a blade. Its less convenient but easier on the skin and gives you a smoother shave. I get around it by shaving only every other day
