insomnia

Hey everyone

As of lately, I've been under a lot of stress due to being engaged, in college, and having a lot of issues with my family. I've pretty much developed insomnia. It hasnt interfered with my everyday life, but I dont want to let it get to the point where it does. I just cant seem to fall asleep. I really dont even feel tired, but I force myself to sleep because I know I need to. Then it only ends up being a couple of hours worth, and not very good sleep at that.

Does anyone have any advice. Im not sure if i want to take any sleep aids, because I dont want to become dependent.... but if anyone has any experience with any of this, I would really appreciate the help

There are things you can do to try to improve your sleep without medication:

A warm bath before bed.
A warm milky drink before bed.
Lavender on your pillow.

Simple things like this can actually have a fairly powerful effect. Other than that, I have no experience of sleeping issues sorry!!

But it's definately worth trying...!

Temporary insomnia is pretty much common with everyone, especially at stressful times in your life.

littlekitty's suggestions are good. And of course cut out all caffeine after lunch time & try not to eat too many high protein foods in the evenings. If you're doing an exercise program then restrict that to the mornings if you can.

Don't take naps during the day and don't force yourself to sleep by lying in bed wide awake. If you're not drowsy enough to drift into sleep then get up, out of bed, & do something (read a book, watch TV) until you are.
