Established / Supporting Members, Premium Subscriptions
Hi all,
In an effort to make it clearer who has permission to access certain features of the forums that have been disabled to new members, we've chosen to publicly display the status of "established" accounts. You'll now see "Established Member" listed under the accounts of individuals who have met the necessary amount of participation and length of membership to access our private messaging tools.
We've also begun testing Premium Subscriptions that, for a nominal donation, will give an ad-free experience, immediate access to private messaging facilities, increased storage space for PMs, text of replies in e-mail notifications, larger profile pictures, and reduced time limits between postings, both public and private. While we're still working out the details and considering what other features we might include, we've enabled the subscription system and those members who choose to subscribe will have the choice to display "Supporting Member" under their username.
As a thank you for those who have made donations in the past, we will be extending complementary subscriptions upon request. We ask that you Contact Us with your account information for more information.
Best wishes,
Paul

Hee hee. Now we get to see who paid up and who didn't. Nope, I haven't (guilty).
For the time being, we're only going to display "Supporting Member" if the account holder elects to do so through the Group Memberships page in their My Profile / CP. We've considered adding an icon or some other indicator, but want to be sure it's something that can be turned on or off, either through two different types of subscriptions (anonymous vs. public) or through a switch like we have now.
What does this mean? I don't quite understand this.
To prevent submission "flooding," members are currently limited to two minutes between sending private messages and one minute between public postings. These restrictions are reduced to seconds for premium accounts.
Is LS a NPO? I see you have .org web addy. Before I give to a NPO or any type of organization it is important for me to know the money that is given is not put in use for an activity that may be against my beliefs. Not trying to be snappy here with you, I think LS is great. I just think it is very important that when we give money we should know how it is being used, or if it is put to use outside of keeping LS online.

Ok, I don't really think this would be fair to the other members or beneficial for the community spirit. In my opinion the posting rights should be the same whether you are a paying member or not, because this is what this messageboard is basically about. I don't mind all the other features, they provide more convenience or are nice addies, whatever, but when it comes to posting people should be treated as equals.

LoveShack.org is not a registered non-profit organization. Please see our Donation Common Questions & Answers, currently undergoing migration to the subscription page, but still available at:
To the best of our knowledge, financial contributions to LoveShack.org are not eligible for tax deductions. LoveShack.org is not a 501(c)(3) charity and therefore does not qualify for tax exemption in the United States, even though we provide our services free of charge. Your local taxation regulations may vary, however, from country to country and we suggest that you consult with legal counsel.
4. How will the my donation be used? Will a portion of my donation go towards paying your staff?
No. LoveShack.org is operated entirely by unpaid volunteers. Your entire contribution will be used to offset the cost of upgrading our hardware and paying our hosting fees. Please note, however, that PayPal currently charges us 2.9% + 30 cents USD per transaction originating in the United States. An equivalent portion of your total donation made through PayPal will be used to offset this fee. For example, if you donate $100, $3.20 ($2.90 + $0.30) will be used to cover PayPal's fees and $96.80 will actually go to the site. This fee may vary if you reside outside of the United States.
Many individuals have gratiously made contributions to help support the increasing costs of maintaining and operating this service throughout the past two years. We're beginning to introduce the premium subscription service as a way of saying "thank you." We're still evaluating additional features and benefits that might be of value to contributors and will be updating the donation page shortly to include information about premium memberships.
Thank you Paul. I should have read that myself! (coffee has not yet kicked in)
Appreciate the quick reply. I would imagine that there is some pretty heavy expense to keep this site running. I would love to know more about that end of things as I am just plain curious . I am also curious about the mods.....who you are, how many of you there are, and the history of LS.
I read the basics..... but I did not find info on why LS was started and why it was started..(lack of my ingestion of coffee?)....... I am very curious about who is behind LS.

We've been wanting to reduce the time limit restrictions for years, but have been faced with individuals registering on the site with the intention of posting a large number of submissions in a short period of time to promote a service or product.
When initially looking at what we could offer with premium subscriptions, we realized that this would provide us with an opportunity to trial less restrictive settings with a select group of individuals. Should those trials prove successful, we would then be able to extend those abilities to the general membership or to accounts that have met certain criteria.
The current time limitations have been in place for about three years. We'd likely want to make the limitations a function of time and participation in the future. Premium subscriptions at this point are in a state of flux, and while the major advantages of an ad-free experience, increased storage, etc. are things we're committed to providing, other benefits and features may shift as we work to develop a product that rewards subscribers while continuing to ensure that the site maintains equal footing for all participants.

Thank you for your kind comments. Expect to learn more about all of the above in the near future. We've been quietly working on maintaining a useful online FAQ and some of the questions you've raised would make for excellent additions.
We're actively recruiting new moderators. Those interested in having more of a behind-the-scenes roll in the community are welcome to get in touch.
