Can you ever fall out of love with someone?

I was thinking about a lot of things lately, and I wondered this: Can you really ever fall out of love with someone, completely?
Let's say you were with them for a long time, no one abused or cheated or did anything terrible... Won't there always be a twinge of love there?
I'm asking because since my ex broke up with me last month, I have been trying to occupy myself to ease the pain.
Out of the blue, a previous ex called to see how I was doing. I hadn't talked to him in a long time.
While I was in my newest relationship, I would sometimes have dreams of the guy from the previous one. It's weird. I guess I still feel love for him even though we had been apart for over 5 years. We left each other on good terms, relatively speaking.
I'm not "in love" or anything, but there are still feelings there.
