breast lumps

I found a lump in my breast and went to my obgyn, who sent me for an ultrasound and mammogram. The ultrasound guy said it looks like I have 3 cysts in my right breast. He said they did not need to be aspirated unless they were painful. So I went home and that was that. Three days later, a woman from my obgyn's office called and said that my doctor wants me to see a surgeon for a consult, and made the appt for 5 days later (I go on Tues). Does this sound like something urgent is going on? Thanks!

Not at all. Women get benign lumps all of the time. They get checked out just in case. Don't worry until you know for sure there's something to worry about and in the majority of cases, there isn't.

it does seem odd that they would tell you there is no need to remove them, and then very quickly set up a surgery without even contacting you before.

i would call them and ask what exactly is going on. you have every right to know.

good luck.

Breast cysts are benign (non-cancerous) and having a breast cyst does not increase your risk of breast cancer. In other words, they are completely safe and you have nothing to worry about. They will either disappear themselves or will be removed in a small surgery. Read this: http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk/B...th/Breastcysts.

Don't worry! Everything is fine with you.

She said they set up an appointment for a surgery CONSULT, not surgery.

Don't panic - it's probably nothing, but it is best to get second or even third opinions and get everything checked out thoroughly. The old adage about an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure is accurate.

Having had both benign cysts and breast cancer (neither caused the other) I would definately follow through and ask lots of questions. Know your family medical history too.
