Does the rate at which your marriage evolves slow down over time?

The other post, with advice for newlyweds made me think-

we (as in people in general) are always finetuning our relationships, learning new things about our partner and ourselves. We make improvements, we modify behaviour, we learn what works and what doesn't. We make mistakes and learn from them etc.

Does that mean, that there comes a time, where the learning, and the finetuning lessens a bit? Do you get to a point after many years, where you have the basics down pat? Where you already know what works in your marriage and interactions with your spouse, and simply do that? And does that make it easier?

Or, owing to the fact that our lives and circumstances keep changing, does the marriage relationship keep changing and adapting too?
