Maybe an excuse to get up into the personal space and pay a compliment at the same time as part of a flirt move? That would be my guess, anyway.

ha ha! yeah i caught my guy friend smelling my hair and after i asked him so many times to quit i still catch him smelling my hair. my brother told me that guys do it to see if a girl keeps herself up and sometimes it's just because he loves her scent.
I guess it all comes down (for me) to being attracted to the scent of the woman I'm attracted to (which in itself is part of the attraction.) Different girls smell different and speaking only for myself, the scent of some women doesn't do a thing for me. But others are just soooo attractive.
This scent is not the perfume they're wearing or what kind of soap they use it is THEM. I read an article a few years ago that suggested that this attraction to another's scent might be a good indication of genetic compatibility, which in this case means a better chance to create offspring that are more likely to be strong, survive and in turn procreate.
its probably one of those "cave man" things, i know when i smell someone im in love with it brings back tons of happy memories, so its like a great reminder, i hadnt seen my ex for 2 months in person, webcam, pictures, anything. we went to a movie and the instant i smelled the smell of her hairspray i was really happy puts a big grin on my face too.
Sometimes women use shampoos and other hair products which smell very nice. Not all men use products which smell as good. When I smell something good on my girlfriend, I will investigate to find out whether it is perfume or shampoo. If her hair is smelling nice, I might want to go and enjoy its scent.

exactly,
i feel the same way. some women use better smelling products than others. and it has nothing to do with getting close or in personal space. i often smell my plutonic girl-friends' hair as well. it's kinda like smelling a baby's hair. they always smell fresh and clean.

Interesting. Makes me think.. I can still remember what my ex's perfume smelled like.. and there is this stripper from a few years ago.. I barely remember what she looks like, but I sure remember how she smelled.

Hey, I saw that commercial too!
Personally, I think it has a bit to do with the phermones.
This might be odd, but I used to be able to tell when my XW was about to "get her monthly visitor" by smelling her hair. Just could smell the difference in the phermones.

I saw it on a discovery channel program before the commercial lol. It's the reason dogs go around sniffing each others a$$. I guess they figure 'I'll go sniff the smelliest part of this mofo and I'll surely remember him.'
