My Grandfather is devestated that I might move to a different state.

Lately I have been thinking. I want to pick up my life and start a new one. I have nothing serious tying me down, I'm only 21. Damn it I'm moving to Florida. My mother sold her house in the Hamptons and she's moving there and My friend and I are seriously considering going with her.
I live with my grandfather. Ever since I got a divorce, He's been my best friend, father and savior through out this whole ordeal. Now keep in mind i take care of him 200%. Write his check, do his laundry cook him dinner etc. etc.
I tried talking to him about me moving to Florida. He go extremely upset. His entire attitude changed from happy to sad. "Are you really leaving me"
I took a shower and when i got out i sat next to him and again he asked me " Are you leaving me"?
I don't have the heart to tell basically the only family member thats has been through everything with me. I had to tell him I was joking. I couldn't do it. It will break his heart.
What do I do? I don't want to leave him but I can't stay living with him forever. I need to do something with myself. And i want to start a brand new life. How can i tell him. I'm going to me hundred of miles away. What if he gets sick and needs me? This is suck a tough decision. I have been thinking about moving to Florida before I started living with him. But now it's like he depends on me. I'm his only entertainment.
I don't want to go in a few years when i might have something that's tying me down.

I told him to come with me but he won't.
What do i do?

I have no advice on how to handle your grandfather. However, I will say you should seriously reconsider moving to Florida. Florida sucks.

I look at it this way. Florida will always be there, your grandfather won't. Also, if you are afraid of having something or someone else keeping you tied to where you live currently -- maybe that won't be a bad thing. You might not want to move later.

I moved across the country to start a new life. The thing is, your life follows you wherever you go. No guarantees that it will be any different in a new town or state. Maybe for a while, but once routines are re-established, you may find it's no different than where you came from.

Oh I love Florida I live here I would never live anywhere else! Ask Grandpa to come with you, it's a HUGE retirement community maby he'll bugde.

Take him on a vacation to Fla and see if he would reconsider, What part of FL are you considering?

We are going on vacation in March to look for houses. We were looking at Clearwater, St. Petersburg and Tampa area. Gulf Coast. I already tried asking him to go. I can try talking him into it but i doubt he'll move. I want so much to go there. In 3 years I might have a serious commitment going on. I wish i moved yesterday i want to move so bad.

Clearwater is great close to Tampa witch is a party town Ybore City, Treasure Island Buch Gardens are there, Buccaneer stadium is there St. Petersburg is busy to with lots of job opportunity, Clearwater has very beautiful beaches. But you GOT to take a trip to Key West.

Your grandpa would probably like the Naples Area more, it's relaxed kind of out of the way still costal and closer to Miami, West Palm Beach, and Fort Lauderdale for you!!

If you do a search look for Marco Island Florida in Collier county. It's awasome and overpopulated with seinors from Jersy!! LMAO

Thats great. Thank you so much for the info. I will try to tell him . But he goes to Atlantic City maybe 3 times a week. Are there casino's down there?

There area Casino Boats, all the Cruise lines are pretty close and FLorida Residents get awasome deals there are casino's on those, and on the Indian Reservations.

If your ever going to live anywhere in Florida it should be costal, property value is through the roof, makes a good investment.
