antidepressants & alcohol

i've heard that it's not a good idea to consume alcohol while on anti-depressants, but my doc didn't mention it to me, and neither does the leaflet in the box mention it.

have any of you drunk while on antid's? i dont mean getting drunk - just a social drink? i'm afraid i dont' wanna skip my social drinks, hence asking

thanks,

hmm

yeah, alcohol is a depressant, so i guess it'd sort of cancel the action of the antidepressant... but alcohol also relaxes me. i dunna - i guess until i ask my doc, i better put away the bottle i have in my desk

yes - call a pharmacist. Shopper's has a lot of 24-hour stores with pharmacists on staff. They'll tell you what's up with the drugs you're taking.

I would never drink alcohol while on any medication and especially antidepressants.. I just don't think it's a good idea.

True enough, and I agree, but it may also help to hear the pharmacist tell her exactly why it's a bad idea. Fear is such a good motivator

I totally agree. But I also think she should talk to the pharmacy tech or other appropriate person to see if there are any adverse interactions between the medication and alcohol.

OK

thanks guys, i won't drink. the truth is, i can always make up a reason to avoid the social drinks, but i do tend to drink a bit when i'm down. with this in mind, i shd rlly not do it, and wait for the antid's to kick in, instead.

thanks for your replies!!

Brain damage....another good reason not to drink....

You can lose your marbles if you drink too much. Go here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4739742/

well...

At the end, it says "drink in moderation", i.e. 2 drinks a day for young men or 1 drink a day for women and older ppl. It's never more than one drink a day! (I've had two in one night maybe five times in my entirely life)
