Unhappy Need to know how to end a long term relationship

I've been in this relationship with a guy for the past year +. Lately we haven't been communicating, sharing the same interest's or talking much. It's been forever since I've done the breaking up, over 4 years. And I don't know how to. See we almost broke up a month ago, then I wasn't prepared, but now I am. I need to know how to end this and still be friends with him. I haven't been able to do that with other ex's. We were friends before, same with others, but it never works out, and I'd like ti too because I still care for him deeply as a friend, but not anymore in a romatic relationship way, also were friends with many the same people and hang out with them on a regular basis's, and it will be akward to be around him if we can't get along. So if anyone has any advice about how to end things and still be friends it would be nice.

Just be Honest...

Akasha6915 its a difficlut thing to do but the main thing is that your not happy in the relationship so you just need to be honest with the guy...

Prepare yourself that he will probably be very hurt and may lash out... depending on his reaction you will be able to ascertain whether or not you can be friends my guess is if your unhappy i'm sure he is too so may have seen this coming.. but it may take time if he hasn't seen this coming for him to be friends with you.. I know its messy with mutual friends but ultimatly you have to be true to yourself no matter who else it effects...

Just sit him down and talk to him honestly....

Good luck!!!

Be honest, make the break up clean and permanent. He will be angry and hurt, but I don't think anyone should be forced to stay in a relationship to make the other person happy. He also has a right to be with someone else who will be fully happy with him.

You can want to be friends with him, but you can't demand it. He may feel uncomfortable being friends. At this point, you both need to be away from each other for awhile. If you want to still have a friendship with him after a couple of months have passed, then I would contact him.

Please just tell him!! Its so horrible that you feel like that but you just have to do it! He may resent you for a bit but it will be best for you both in the long run.

I think you're going to have to deal with the fact that, initially anyway, you may not be able to be friends because he may not be able to deal with it. Hopefully, since you share many acquaintances, you can at least be civil.
However, my advice to you, like others, is to just do it and be honest. There's nothing worse than dragging out a break up and potentially hurting the person even more in the process.
