Unhappy Work Interfering with WorkOUT!

I have just made the transition from university to full time work. I used to be a bit of a fitness freak and would go to the gym at least 4 or 5 times a week. My hours were flexible because I could study at night and spend the day at the gym. I felt great about myself and it helped motivate me in school.

Well I have just started at an extremely busy law firm, and find myself working 60 to 70 hour weeks, and also coming in on the weekends. Worse is that I live an hour away from the city (my mother is sick, I can't move), so the commute takes up even more of my time. I haven't been to the gym for 3 weeks now and feel AWFUL!

Physically, I seem to have held up okay (I'm shocked that I haven't gained weight -what's with that?) but I just think exercise is pivotal to a generally healthy lifestyle. I just don't seem to have the time! I get up at 5am every day and sometimes don't get home until after 9. How am I spose to fit in the gym?? My only day off is usually Sunday, but I find myself sleeping the day away and then have commitments at night. Argh. Any advice??

Explore the availability of a gym close to your law firm and go there during part of your lunch hour....or combine breaks. This may be your only alternative. Most reasonable people would be happy to have you take time to keep up your health and appearance. You may be able to take a little extra time between preparing briefs on weekends. Talk to the trainer about preparing an exercise regimen to accomodate your vigorous schedule. There is no good reason to let yourself go in the name of accumulating billable hours. Continue to watch your diet, keep your eating down to proper levels, and consume a balances of protein, fruit and veggies. Avoid treats. If Perry Mason could do it, you can to.

You might even consider buying some minor gym equipment to use at home if that would be beneficial. Some of this equipment is not expensive.
