Been told I am standoffish by people from a different forum....

THere is this one site I go to alot with questions about graphic design stuff and whathave you. Anyways, we have alot of off topic things that people post different things in and I of course talk about my dating problem and how it has been a long time since I have dated. Now, with being apart of this forum for several months, I guess people are just assuming with what I write that I am standoffish or I come across as being standoffish. It really hurts and I don't know why I take it to heart but I do. Whatever. How do I not be so "standoffish" as everyone says about me?

Do YOU think you are standoffish? The only real validation you need in life comes from you and the only validation that should mean anything comes from family and friends that you love and respect and who love and respect you.

I've pissed some people off on this forum and received some really funny (they were not meant to be funny) PM's from those who I angered. I don't take it to heart - we don't know each other, we don't express ourselves fully in writing, and some of the things we may think about each other probably are not true at all in real life. Same with you being standoffish.

If someone else says you are standoffish, why not ask them to explain more and give you some examples, they you can address those individual specifics if you want to.

Are you a graphic artist? I sorta am/was too. What software/format do you use?

Oh, and welcome to LoveShack!

Well, I can't really say I Am a graphic designer yet. I know it sounds strange, but I don't consider being a graphic designer with 4 years of school and little knowledge about the field. Anyways, I use Photoshop 7 and that is the only software I have on my computer for my art stuff. Looking for some good place to buy software like Indesign/Quark and Illustrator for a somewhat decent price. Know of any?

Ah, just tell 'em to "pizz off" and you'll feel a lot better. Besides, no sense in confusing a bunch of anonymous people typing in a chat room as real flesh-n-blood friends, anyway. It's just a bunch of hype and type!

Meanwhile, have you tried doing an Internet search for various graphic programs that will let you try them out for free?? It's a good way to figure out what you're looking for before investing the money.

Type: +shareware or +freeware and then add "+graphics" or whatever software brand you want. You might find some pretty nifty downloads!!

Not everybody expresses themselves in the same way in writing or online. If someone is basing their opinions of you on just that, then they're not getting the full picture. So I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Now if they knew you in person and said the same thing, then maybe it would be something you'd need to work on. You seem like a very sensitive person to me.

It really don't see how anybody could rationally determine if somebody was being standoffish just by their posts on an Internet forum. That's kind of the thing that you have to witness in person. If people in your day to day life, away from the net, feel you are standoffish then you might want to do something about it. If that's your personality, don't try to change yourself unless you want to. But I have never read a word you have written that might indicate that you are....standoffish. Of course I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

I don't remember - are you a student? Even if you are not -- you might be able to find stores that honor student discounts and then find a student that can purchase a software for you.

My husband has some contacts and he gets discounts, even so, the graphic softwares are very expensive. If I had the money we spent on the software I could buy a new car!

We were going to do everything on MAC because that is the industry standard for the type of graphic/multimedia programs we do, but most of our clients require Windows-based software because they run them on PC's and even when they run DVDs there is so much we have to do in a MAC to get the sound files burned with the video that its not cost effective for us.

Most of the graphic software packages do have free trials, but they are very limited in what they allow you to do.
