Long distance army relationship any advice?

I fell in love with an old childhood friend, and everything was great, there was an instant spark between us. Something really special. Problem is, he is in the service, and a few months after we hooked up he got sent to Iraq. That was 3 months ago. We are still together, or at least have titles. And so far it's been hard but tolerable. He was supose to be home in Jan. but now it may not be until next June. That would be a year from the time he left. Is it crazy to wait for so long for someone? We are both young, (early 20's) but there is something really special between us. I love him and want to be with him when he gets home. I don't have any desire to be with anyone else, but some of my family/friends think I went off the deep end. They say I am to young to be doing this. Any advice???????????????

I don't see anything wrong with waiting for your guy if that's what makes you happy. It would be rather stupid to just start looking around for somebody else when your heart isn't into it. Tell the people who are trying to tell you how to run your life to go screw off. Meanwhile, you might want to volunteer as a campaign worker to re-elect the President. He's the jerk who got you into this fine mess.

Hey Good Girl

I know many people going through almost exactly the same thing as you right now. I know how hellish it is to wait. Pop in to this site, I'm one of the assistant managers - http://uk.msnusers.com/englishgirlfriendsofturkishmen, (I don't have a Turkish boyfriend anymore though), and despite the name, it doesn't matter if you aren't english, lol. I doubt your boyfriend is Turkish either, but I just thought it might help to talk to other women who are going through the same emotions as you. I know one woman who has just got married in July, knowing she won't see her husband until next June because he's in the army. To some people, it may sound crazy, but she knows that it's what she wants. It's even harder though, when everyone tells you you're crazy. We on the site I mentioned are all too familiar with that. But if you feel he's worth waiting for, then do it. It'll be fantastic in the end!

Hi there good girl

I too am a girlfriend of a service man. I am currently dating a US Marine and I have to honestly say, I have never been more pround of any guy for what he has to do and secondly, Ben would be worth all the waiting. It doesn't matter on your age, do what you feel is right for yourself. My friends and family tell me I am wasting my time and what is going to happen if Ben gets called to Iraq (or any war for that matter) but this is something we have chosen to deal with. I knew a military relationship was going to be tough but no guy has ever made me happier in my life than Ben has. I am not in a LDR with Ben...yet, but he may be getting stationed at a new post thousands of miles away from me this coming December but we know that we both want each other to be part of our futures. Marriage is on the cards once he gets out. There are some support groups I am in and the girls there are ever so helpful.....here's a list of them so feel free to join them:-

There is nothing wrong with waiting for them if you really truly love them. I mean..look at all the married people getting shipped over..thier spouses r waiting..they arent crazy. If u really love him..then waiting for him is the best thing to do.
