I really think we need to have a chat room.Cause sometimes on the forum you just really want to talk to that person.You know? I know we have the PM and stuff, but I really think we should have a chat room where we can all just talk to another.Wouldnt that be great? I think so!

Heres another idea.How about another page for LoveShack where we can view pictures of the members and moderators included? Just a page where we can see all the pics on one page.

I think the chat idea is a good one. You're right - sometime you just wanna say something to the person and get a quick response....but then again, if we had chat, that would kind of eliminate the need for a message board. I mean if someone had a question, they could just go in the chat room and ask it. So, I don't know which works better. I guess it's up to the bosses here.

There are as many reasons not to have a chatroom on this site as there are reasons to have one.

A chatroom would require regular hours, have to be monitored closely by moderators, and would be of almost no use if more than just a few people were on it at a time. If you've seen chatrooms on other sites, they get way out of hand and confusing most of the time.

A chatroom specifically for romance and other problems would evolve into becomming a quasi-therapy session by a lot of persons who are not qualified to conduct such sessions. It would also become a place for socializing, small talk, etc. This site is not designed as a social site but rather as a place to help people. If those who need help are bad off enough to need to interact with other people, there problems are probably serious enough to require professional counselling services.

A chatroom also evolves into a place where people become too familiar with each other and personal information can be divulged that can ultimately lead to serious problems in certain circumstances.

There was a chatroom feature in the old forum which was one all the time but was seldom if ever used. It's something that gets a lot of attention and excitement when it opens but interest dwindles significantly overtime as the novelty wears off. Personal messages are sufficient for exchanging personal information and people do so at their own risk. Advice is much better written out in the forum under relaxed conditions rather than in a fast moving and confusing chatroom where ten conversations are going on at once.

I have forgotten the good reasons for having a chatroom.

People from the site who want to chat with each other can arrange for those sessions on AIM, Internet Relay Chat (IRQ), MSN Messenger, and other chat clients. You can meet online, have private, real time chats...to your hearts content.

With the availability of Personal Messages and private chat clients, there's really no need to add that functionality to the forum.....in my opinion. I think we've discussed this issue a number of times in threads on LoveShack.
