Interviews make you nervous?
I got this thread idea from a thread of Cora's entitled "??"
I occasionally read this forum when a title catches my eye. I see a repeated comment by those facing job interviews. They are or were really nervous about the interview. I just remembered today something I did years ago.
I had a job that I felt wasn't a great career for years and years and needed to start looking for something better. I had been there for 5 years and so I had not interviewed in that many years. A friendly customer came in one day and I was curious about his job due to his uniform. He told me a bit about it and then whipped out a business card and said they were hiring in case I was interested.
I never would have considered it. But I realized I needed to practice interviewing. I ended up calling the number and getting an interview for a job I could care less about. Since I had no desire for the job, I wasn't one bit nervous about the interview. I was completely relaxed. Funny thing happened. They offered me a position. I thought about it and realized that it was something I could do after all. I took the job!
This may not work for everyone but keep it in mind when you get really nervous about interviewing. Schedule an interview with a place you could care less if you get the position or not just for the practice of the interview. Some may think it's a waste of the employers time but look how it turned out for me! I found a new position that I never would have thought I would fit into.
