What do you think?

Over the past few months, i've lost a substantial amount of weight due to stress and anxiety. I've been feeling a lot better the past few weeks, and have been eating a lot more. Yesterday, alone, I ate 3 burgers (not at once!), fries, and a sandwich all day! I know that's not healthy, but i'm trying to pack on a few pounds.

Unfortunatly, nothing i've been doing is helping. The minute I think i'm beginning to gain weight again, i'll lose twice the amount that I gained. I'm actually losing more weight now!!

I haven't went running, or gone to the gym yet... mostly due to the fact that after working 4 - 10 hour shifts, doing yardwork and housework, i'm extremely exhausted.

Last week I weighed 108, and now I weigh 104! I'm getting a little scared, because if this continues, i'll disappear! You won't be able to see me anymore!

I'm not too sure what to do?? Any suggestions??

I have no experience with this particular problem, but eating unhealthy food to gain weight is not a good idea. Skinny people can have heart disease, clogged arteries as well.

Maybe buy some whey protein and mix with soy milk in between healthy meals.

Also you need to reduce your anxiety and stress. Read, meditate, walk or play with a dog, yoga, swim etc.... Give yourself mental breaks from your situation. If you find yourself stressing just change the topic in your head to something more relaxing. Imagine getting a massage, or being at the beach etc.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response! I was actually thinking about trying protein shakes and maybe taking some vitamins.

My stress and anxiety aren't really much of an issue anymore. I usually have a hold on those, it just went a little crazy for a little bit. I feel fine (with the occasional normal stress), and i've been eating much more than I used to. I'm just not too sure why i'm still losing weight instead of gaining it.

If this continues, I think I might need to take a trip to the doctors.

Count your calories.

If you're still losing weight when you're eating more than 2000* calories a day, see a doctor.

*Assuming you're not burning 1000 calories a day in exercise.

I agree that if it continues you should see a doctor. Un explained weight loss needs to be checked. However, Stress and anxeity sure can do that to a person. I went through it in the last year. I was 138 and dropped all the way down to 128. then I went as low as 124 and I was looking and feeling awful. I was so stressed out and anxious that I could not eat. I'm now back to 132 which is a perfect weight for me. I gained the weight back my adding more carbs, eating nuts and making sure not to skip meals. Good luck to you.

Instead of protein powder, you can pick up a weight gainer. It is similar but is packed with more carbs, calories, and some protein.

Those are more for people who are body building I think...

I too am continuing to lose weight after I have decided to stop. I'm not really trying to lose weight, although I do work out pretty hard. A suggestion would be whole wheat pasta instead of junk food. It's healthier and has a lot of calories and carbs..but good ones!

It sounds like you are active, with working a lot and doing yardwork and housework..that burns off food you eat. If you eat and then lay around the house THEN you will gain weight. I don't advise that though, as it is not healthy either.

weight gainers are not just for body builders, calories are calories, some of them pack as much as 2500 calories a drink. my wife uses them on her cancer patience to keep their weight up,does a heck of a job.

Regular healthy diets will help as well. Lean proteins, healthy carbs, fruits, veggies, occasional splurge ... and eat more smaller meals throughout the day instead fo 2 or 3 larger meals.

BTW - you look like J-Lo in your pic.

Ah I completely forgot about this thread!

As an update, i'm still the same freakin weight! I gained 4 pounds last week, and when I weighed myself yesterday i'm back down to the same weight I started out at. GEEZ!!

I think i'm starting to figure out why. On the days I don't work, i'll eat and eat and eat. I'll eat more than most guys I know! But on the days that I do work, I won't eat anything until the end of my shift. So I go all day without eating basically.

The only reason I do this is because food has a tendency to upset my stomach. I went to the doctors for it, and I forgot what he said that I have, but the pain is equivelant to an ulcer. I'd rather not take the chance of being at work and in pain.

Supplements it is!

I'm embarrassed to say that I weigh what you weighed a week prior to you making this post. I'm 5'10, so that's not healthy at all.

At first, I thought it was just my depression, but I wanted to be sure. I went to get an upper GI endoscopy and found out that my stomach wasn't absorbing nutrients properly. I'm on medication now and one of the pills happen to be an antidepressant as well

I suggest you get an upper GI test as well.

ERICA - you can find something that doesn't upset your stomach - eat smaller portions more often through out the day. If not then the supplements will have to do. BTW - if you can just maintain (yo-yo?) in the 4 lb range then you will probably be just fine. How come when you're
not working and you pig out it does not upset your stomach?

The thing is, my stomach does hurt when i'm eating at home. The only difference is that i'm able to lay down and relax. Being at work, I don't have that option. I need to be on my feet running around all night.
