My Roommate's Cousin

Well, I'm done with the first month of college, and I think I may be falling for my roommate's cousin. The thing is, my roommate and I have been friends for a couple of years, and now that we're roommates, it seems like she may be too close of a family member of his for me to go after. I'm thinking about trying to ask her out sometime, but I don't have her number, and I only see her when she comes to the dorm or when we eat (both times it's with my roommate, and she goes to the same school as we do). She is leaving in January to study in Japan for a semester, so I want to try to ask her out before it's too late. What should I do, if anything?

been in this situation before.. doesnt have to be a big deal! i asked, "would it bother/upset you if i dated your cousin?" answer,, not at all! if your roomate has seen you treat people with respect and kindness, it shouldnt be a problem.. but then, keep in mind, it might not be you thats the problem (his cousin could really be totally crazy!).. i would ask, and then really listen to what your roomate has to say.. it should be totally fine!

Well I told my roommate...

After many hours of keeping it inside, I told him. He said, "Alright. That's fine." But he told me I might as well give up, since he said she doesn't go out with people. It's just something she doesn't do. He said she's going to start dating after college. I really want to go out with her, but I don't want to if she doesn't want to or feels forced to do it. Now what?

give it a shot if you want, or let it go. this needs to be about you and her, not you and your roommate! he said okay, forget the rest. if you still want to ask her out it has to be direct and totally non-threatening. by that i mean, invite her to do something (yourself, no passing notes through her cousin!) that would be fun for both of you even if there's no romantic chemistry. even if she says no, you can still ask in a way that will be complimentary and will make you feel good about yourself. be nice, be forward.. after some time has past (if you're genuine about it) she will be grateful that you asked, and you'll be glad that you were you were honest with yourself about your intentions and emotions .. trust me, be yourself and whatever the outcome you're a winner..
