Why is it that when I log in, it says there are 19 active threads, and like 34 posts since my last visit...and when I click read them now, it only shows me 12 threads?

nothing is going to get better. It's not.
That's a "known issue" we've been trying to fix. That happens when for some reason we have to delete a post--the deleted post is actually moved into a temporary folder (like the "recycle bin" in Windows), and the forum counts those messages when it shows you the number of active threads and posts. If you count carefully, you'll notice that the number of posts may be a little off too!
This will only happen when we delete messages or threads--it just so happens that we were running a few tests on the forum yesterday and created and deleted a number of test threads and posts, which is probably what's causing the discrepancy for you.
OK I totally understand. I want to complement you Paul. You always take the time to explain and answer questions...even the silly ones. I work with people every day, so I know how hard it can be to have patience. So I really appreciate you!

If people compliment you on how good you are at taking your time to explain things, how about filling me in on the meaning of life??? I can live with wrong numbers of active threads!
