Cognitve Behavioural Exercises

I shall be starting a new job in two weeks time. I was hoping that maybe there are some people on this site who work in the addictions field and could possible advise me on where to look for interesting CBT exercises or maybe discuss what has worked in group and one to one settings.

Of course I shall share my observations and book references also.

Many thanks xx

Eve, there's lots of good stuff at coping.org -- likely you'll be able to put together a number of programs that'll work for group and individual.

Unfortunately, there's no site map. Would suggest you scroll down to "Adults' Tool Box" section and check each 'tool' separately...each has its own selection of topics. The included "action steps" likely will give ideas for cognitive.
Might also find something useful in sections on risk-taking and irrational beliefs. (I've been working with those for other reason but actually fits with addictions quite nicely.) Site also covers 'usual suspects' of fears, anger, control issues, etc.

Good luck -- hope your new position brings positive challenges and wonderful rewards.

I am not a therapist but I do a lot of reading in the area of psychology I enjoy it and a great book I would highly recommend is Mind Over Mood by Dennis Greenberger. It is filled with exercises that can be adapted to different scenarios.

"Been There, Done That, Try This!" by Sam Obitz. It has the TEA forms, amongst many other helpful information. Another one is "The Feeling Good Book" by Dr. David Burns.

Hope this helps.
