song for reception

My soon to be step son (will be 9) wants to dance with me at the reception. I'm trying to find ideas for a song we can use that would have meaning but can't think of anything appropriate. I've been in his life since he was 2 years old. He is very excited that his dad and I are getting married. Can anyone help?

Reception song

How about "I Hope You Dance?" I don't know if you've heard it, but it's from a parent to a child urging him/her to make the most of life. One lyric is . .. "when you get the choice to sit it out or dance, I hope you dance." Cute

slow dance, fast dance? What kind of music does he like? And what kind would you feel comfortable dancing with him?

I think this is something you could have a lot of fun with – Satchmo sings Disney comes to mind, particularly "'Bout Time" and "Bare Necessities" – where he could just boogie his little butt off. And think of the fun y'all would have practicing to such a song.

slow song, George Strait's "Best Day of My Life" or Satchmo's "What a wonderful world"

other ideas? https://home.comcast.net/~stephandj/...ding_songs.htm

Have you asked him what his favourite songs are? He may just surprise you...

Thanks for the good ideas!

It will be a slow dance- he wants to be just like his dad. His favorite songs are Lee Greenwood's God Bless the USA (he wants to sing it at our wedding) and Reba Mcentire's The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia so neither of those really work. He also likes Jamie Walter's Hold On which is more of a love song and not sure its appropriate. I was already thinking of I hope you Dance by Le Ann Womak like the first person suggested. I just don't want something too long because I want it to be cute but I dont' want him to get bored.

Thanks for the suggestions!
