veganism

I think I'm going to become a vegan. I feel like it's the right thing for me. I haven't eaten anything with a face in a while (calamari doesn't have a face right? ) and I think I'm going to go all out and be a vegan. I am crushed when I see and hear about the terrible treatment of animals, it seriously breaks my heart. I've decided that instead of ignoring what happens to these animals so that I can eat them I'm going to have no part in it. There are countless vegan restaurants and food options in my area so it shouldn't be too limiting. I am going to miss cheese incredibly but I'm going to do this. So anyone out there a vegan? Anyone have any comments? Or do you guys just think I
am silly with my little ideas?

Fine, stir fry some tofu with the broccoli and then see... It might be an enlightening experience.

freakin' cali hippies
kidding, but i think it is great, allina. i think the treatment of animals in this world (by some) is aweful and if this is what you feel like you can do to help, then go for it! i refuse to eat canned tuna or take my kid to the circus...i love fried chicken and steak WAY too much to give it all up. i actually gave up red meat AND beer for Lent this year...the meat was the hardest. the cheese will be much the same as a testiment to your will power.

just one thing; i know some people who "went vegan" for a while...they smelled weird. seriously. i'm not sure what it is but by being vegan, you don't get as much of some nutrient or something that causes your body odor to change. anyone know what that is?

Wait what?! I am NOT giving up wine! No way! I wine

I am concerned about this smell. Shouldn't you smell better since you aren't consuming meat? Were they maybe eating tons of garlic? I don't want to be stinky! Help!

I've heard that about the weird smell. I know a couple that didn't go vegan, but they spent about 6 months living in a very rural village in Guatemala. They ate what the people there did, which was mostly plant foods. A lot of corn products, beans, and greens. No meat (too expensive for the villagers). So kind of vegan. The wife told me they started to smell really badly after a while and it didn't go away until they left and started eating their normal US diet.

I've known people who say they're vegans who didn't smell, but after spending enough time around them, it was clear they were only "vegan" when it was convenient.

i can't find any "proof". just what people, like myself, think when they are around someone who has an entirely different diet. the two guys i knew that were vegans for a short while were very "hippy" types. it could have been they're own personal hygiene or one guy's dreads...who knows, but they did smell funny.

vegans think carnies stink too, apparently.

Yeah true veagans usualy stink, have weird looking musculature and skin on their body. I think we should strive to be kinder to animals. But I also believe we are an animal that enjoys meat, and I don't tend to deprive myself of the thing that makes us so great

Do I know why veagans are the way they are? probably because only animal protein can fully nurish the human body to its highest levels

i meant, what causes "the stink"? i thought someone once told me a lack of protein, but maybe allina can avoid that by taking some kind of suppliment or something.

i dunno...look at my avatar, i'm no health nut.

There's no way I'd ever be a vegan. I love my meat! Burgers, steak, chicken, turkey, lamb. Ham, bacon...Eggs! Let alone not having yoghurt or any dairy products.

If you choose to do this, make sure you talk to your dr so you can have vitamin and mineral supplements. Last thing you need to deal with is becoming anemic, not having enough Iron and B12 in your blood.
