Funky "Views" Logic

I can't figure out how the system counts the number of views on a thread. I can repeatedly click on a thread and never see the count change. I just watched the reply count go up by three on one thread, but the views count stayed the same.

How does the system count views? Is it working?

I think it goes up randomly, depending on how long the thread lasts for I thought perhaps it was 1 view per poster, but that makes no sense, especially when it gets to around 1,000. I doubt that many people would view one thread.

I think it doesn't update immediately.

It takes a few minutes to catch up.

I think it works just fine despite that.

I get the feeling that the new posts function and the views function updates every fifteen minutes or something. Kind of like Ariadne said.

The view count is operated by a platform of highly sophisticated and super calibrated computers located in the basement of NORAD, the North Atlantic Defense Command and has a satellite hookup with additional hardware housed in a lead vault under a mountain range in southwestern Virginia.

The equipment senses when each post is accessed and the data is entered into our computer programs, where it is quickly processed and sent to analysts at locations we cannot disclose. The information is gleaned for all kinds of hints of fraud, such as members repeatedly accessing a thread in order to purposely increase the number of views; the OP repeatedly going to the thread simply to see what responses there are; etc. Once this kind of data is received, it is integrated into the overall analysis program where a determination is made as to the approximate true, unique views of any given thread.

This information is forwarded to an independent firm which analyzes the complete picture and assigns a number of views that seems credible. This number is then sent back to LoveShack.org where it is reviewed and approved. Then it is sent to our webmaster, who likewise matches the result to known algorithms and put to statistical tests (the nature of which are confidential.) Then the final number is put up on the site.

I hope this helps in your understanding of how the number of views is reached for each thread. As you can see, great care is taken to ensure the complete accuracy of this reporting.

It is so overly complicated it wouldn't surprise me if it was true.

Nice to see at least our Mod's sense of humor is working.

So that's why it doesn't work.
