About 1,500.00 on my end. Not sure what he paid. We both secured our own separate attorneys and paid our own legal fees.

Mine was pretty painless too, so to speak. We split the cost, $500 each. Took about 3 months once we filed. We worked out everything before filing so there was no extra costs involved with having lawyers hash things out for us.

Just remember that restraining orders would cost you more money!

Well, then I had better not tell you that I paid approximately $300. Oops! Sorry!

To be fair, it was "uncontested," and was in 1992.

If it's something you feel strongly about.

Of course, if you did, it may be a commitment order instead!

Mine just came through on Monday. It had taken about 18 months from the date of separation.

Up here, you can get divorced PDQ on grounds of adultery. I could've done that but by then a ton of people knew XW was a serial cheat and her rep was in tatters anyway. Figured I'd cut her a break, and I wasn't looking to get married again right away anyway. If there's no adultery being alleged, up here you can get DV after a one-year separation.

Ours took a bit longer because we didn't really get started on it until after the one year. I drafted the separation agreement and got a fellow lawyer in my office too review it and file the paperwork, and he didn't charge me anything (he didn't have to do much). XW had to hire a lawyer, and she agreed to pay the court filing costs (at my suggestion -- she wrecked the marriage, she could pay to end it).

So, all in all, the actual divorce itself cost me about $100.

Is there any advantage of speeding up the divorce because of an adultery? My husband is having an EA and wants a divorce. From my current POV, why would i speed of the divorce process just so he can get together with her sooner?

There may or may not be.

First, trying to prove adultery may be a long & complicated process, possibly involving such Mickey Spillane things like private detectives.

A more basic issue is what does the law provide in your state? That is, would proving adultery entitle you to a larger monetary or property share? It may impact child custody.

Here in Wisconsin, community property laws are such that adultery would not impact a settlement. In fact, under current law, adultery is not even grounds for divorce. Divorces here are "no-fault," simply a matter of "irreconcilable differences," and marital property is divided evenly.

This is very general information, of course. You would be well advised to discuss the particulars with your attorney.

My divorce was filled the beg. of April and our court date is July 5th, I think 3 months is pretty quick. He paid all the divorce fees, b/c he is the one that wants this. We pretty much agree on all of our assets. We have no children and do have a house. We have agreed to sell the house and split the profit. Not that divorce is easy, but it is easier and cleaner for me to just agree to everything and not have a hearing. Having a hearing would last months, and I just can't put myself through that emotionally.

I have my own lawyer, which I am paying, but she is a friend of the family so is charging me next to nothing. I hope he is paying top dollar for his lawyer.
