re: carbs before workouts

i use to be on this bill phillips program, body for life, the program tells you NOT to eat before a workout, or an hour after workouts. the reasoning behind this is that all you will burn off is the food that you ate. my guy and i lost a lot of weight on this program and alot of body fat, well not alot of weight, were not really heavy just a little pooch in the tummy, you know that middle age having babies crap you get?

anyway, I started gaining weight and having some health problems and i was unable to exercise without eating, now i've learned that you should eat carbs before working out and i agree over the bill phillips program, simply because i can no longer do it his way.

i've learned that some orange juice/bage/banana/cereal, some good for you carbs is all you need and about a half hour before you work out. this is what i've been doing and i have lost 4 pounds in three weeks now!

i also started doing a major kickass aerobics program, it's actually called interval training but i got it from this "muscle and fitness/hers" magazine, and i can burn off 467 calories in 40 mns!

then when i have a small treat i don't feel as bad.

anywa, if anyone ever wants to check out his training program "body for life" by bill phillips, it's really pretty good, but i would eat a little something first before working out.

I think treadmills are pretty good.....from a cardiovascular standpoint (they get your heart going, which helps burn fat/calories) and from a "toning" standpoint. I bought one a few years ago. Makes a great dust collector LOL. My New Year's resolution is to use it 3-4 times a week. Just waiting til I take my Xmas tree down, then I'm going to get some big strapping men (it's heavy!) to carry it down into my family room...then no excuses...can watch TV and walk. Heard something once, too.....(maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong)...that you should eat carbs BEFORE you exercise/work out (or use treadmill)...gives you energy to workout..plus you'll be burning off the calories at the same time. When I was diagnosed a year ago with an underactive thyroid gland (which causes very very low metabolism/hard to lose weight/easy to gain weight), I went to a really good Thyroid Forum.....just about every woman there was battling with a weight problem, due to their lowered metabolism (mostly from having lived with UNdiagnosed hypothyroidism for years, their docs not taking them seriously).....and many of these gals were taking a natural supplement called "CLA" that really helped them to lose weight. CLA stands for "Conjugated Linoleic Acid"....it's an amino acid that's naturally in the body....and it can help to block fat absorption. A good brand of this stuff is "Tonalin"......

Here's the website that explains more about CLA (made by Tonalin): Click here for CLA Info You need about 3500mg of this stuff per day.....I'd take 2 capsules with breakfast, 1 with lunch, 2 with dinner. I lost 12 lbs (but some of that might have been due to starting on the thyroid meds).......but just about every woman who began taking it noticed great results after a few weeks....mostly in terms of 'lost inches'.....Interestingly enough, when you work out, as you might already know, what the scale says your weight is can really be deceiving when it comes to being overweight.....it's more accurate if you take your measurements BEFORE you start a diet/exercise routine...then periodically recheck them.......a person can lose a LOT of inches though their weight might not show much decrease..due to the fact that muscle weighs more than fat. Just a suggestion to help you along. I was able to buy this Tonalin CLA in my local Health Food Store....You should always consult your family doctor before starting any kind of dietary supplement. And if you do decide to try it, make sure you drink lots of water......that's something that's very important when taking this......
