Wasn't Supposed to Happen

What do you do when you love that special someone on the side more than your own wife or husband?

What you should do is stop calling yourself a hopeless romantic and start calling yourself what you really are: a cheater. Then you should tell your spouse what you have been doing and with whom, not just to 'come clean', but to begin the process of reclamation of your own soul... maybe start by slapping yourself in the face a few times. Who knows, perhaps you can wake yourself up and shake off the foggy spell the affair has put you under... at the very least it'll get you used to pain. Of which there will, I predict, be plenty of in your and your spouses' future. But no, what you will do is what cheaters usually always do: obfuscate, prevaricate, and deny owning up to what they really are: A Cheater. This board is full of 'em. Browse the threads and see how well it's working out for them...

What you do is one of two things.

Either come clean to your spouse and offer compete and utter transparency and do the hard work necessary to be able to be a safe person to be around.

Or

Come clean to your spouse and effectively let them go by filing for divorce.

The spouse needs to be able to make a decision on the direction of their own life. They need to know what type of person they are married to.

If the cheater has any integrity at all, the best way to show the betrayed that they do is to let them go so they can perhaps have a chance to be loved by someone who will actually honor their vows.

You are mistaking infatuation (short term feelings) with love. You will regret it and it will eat at your soul for ever getting involved with someone else.
