Mrlonelyone
This is a interesting article from OKC. http://blog.okcupid.com/index.php/the-mathematics-of-beauty/ A woman who is rated an average of 3.5 stars... with ratings of mostly three or four stars will get fewer messages than a woman who's average rating is also 3.5 stars...but with allot of fives and a few ones. Men message women they give five stars. So basically their data indicates that plenty of attractive women on OKC don't get that many messages. While women who have a look that's more striking and would be attractive to some men but not others get more messages.
dreamingoftigers
There was actually a thread on this very same thing not long ago.
Thedude22
I read this article and here's the deal. A girl with tattoos and piercings will get a 1 rating from 50% and a 5 from the other 50% thus her average score is something like a 3, but those 50% who gave her a 5 will all message her because she is their type. A girl with a cute smile and blond hair with nothing particularly different about her will get a 3-4 from everybody but a 5 from very few, thus her rating is higher but nobody really digs her that much thus they never message her. It's like comparing Scott Pilgrim to Iron Man in last year's box office. More people liked Iron Man and more people hated Scott Pilgrim, however more people loved Scott Pilgrim and you will meet more people in life talk about that film than Iron Man. The tattooed girl is essentially the cult classic, the blond is the blockbuster no one remembers in two years.
