Friends are frustrating me

Recommended Posts

Recently two of my friends lost their part-time jobs. One got fired, and another no longer works his once a week shift for reasons I don't know. When we all had jobs and spending money, we'd go out often - to the club, to parties, the casino, out to play pool, dinner occsionally etc. Keep in mind that these two friends are in the main 'friend circle' which I hang out with the most.

But for the last month (since they stopped working) suddenly we aren't going out and doing fun stuff anymore. Instead of going out to the club, it's just hanging out at someones house. As opposed to going to the casino, it's watching the local sports game at my friends place. You get the drift. It's nothing really exciting anymore. And it's not like my friends got tired of doing that stuff, its to due with the fact that two people don't have any money coming in every week. It's gotten to the point where one of the two will say "Let's do something tonight where we don't have to spend money." I'm all for hanging out and doing something quiet now and then, but when it becomes a regular occurance it gets kind of boring.

This really frustrates me. The part the bothers me is that as far as I know, they aren't even looking for other jobs. They're just sitting there non-chalant, not working at all. And it's not like they're busy with school - they only have like 3 classes. It's no fun if 3 of us go out to the club, leaving two people behind because they can't afford it. If they were making an effort to get another job - I wouldn't be writing this post at all. I would be sympathetic with their situation - the fact that they lost their part-time work. But it really bugs me when they're just sitting on their a$$es not doing anything. I'm going to school full-time and working 10-12 hours a week and with my hard earned cash I'm not even spending any of it because theres nothin' goin on anymore.

Is there anyway I can encourage my friends to get a job without sounding like their mom? I'm not sure what to do really.
