Being Compared to a Friend's Mom???? I don't get it...

Recommended Posts

My dear friend (he's married for 30 years) always has told me that I remind him of his Mom. She passed away several years ago.

He says it's a good thing - as in a compliment...

Since I never met her, I always wonder what this comment is supposed to insinuate...

Any ideas or insight?

You probably have some (nice!) personality traits that remind him of his mother. Or perhaps it could be a facial expression that is typical of yours, your voice, the way you say certain sentences, the way you laugh... anything.

I find it a lovely thing to say  (unless of course he keeps referring to his mother as "that hideous witch"!).

Wait... he is not the guy who would occasionally feed you, is he?

Yep! That is him.

I never understood that either!?????

This is weird.

Perhaps he is attracted to you (or just afraid of being attracted to you) but he keeps telling to himself (and to you, by making this kind of comments) that there is no attraction whatsoever on his part and that your friendship is just such a close friendship that he considers you like family.

I can't think of any other explanation - but I can be pretty limited.
