owning a speed dating franchise?

Recommended Posts

Has anybody ever owned one of these? Or know anybody who does?

I have done some preliminary market research & it sounds like it might be an OK investment.

I was wondering if anybody had any 1st hand experience.

Really? You think that people don't go out in person anymore . . . they want to meet via computer or they won't go for it?

There is a dating programme on TV which watches how couples meet, interact, and spend the evening, then they give a verdict. In almost every instance, half the time they were on their damn mobile phones.... sharing pictures, taking selfies, texting their best friends "OMG guess wht I m doing rite now?" I am flabbergasted by how people seem to be unable to function without their phones. One girl's phone was broken, and she confessed to feeling completely lost without it. Her behaviour was bizarre... almost like drug withdrawal symptoms! she kept asking her date to borrow his! So no, I really don't know if a speed-dating company would work. Unless you could somehow do it throigh phones....!

It's not strictly true that speed dating is dead, at least here in the UK.

Where I live, it seems to be popular, probably because the companies get publicity across the local media, radio stations etc.

Where I am, one local event seems to be popular, it gets a lot of online bookings, but then again, this is only really in my region of the UK, so I can't say the same for all areas.

That's not always true. The 30 + age group don't tend to be that way, in my experience anyway. I'm 28, but my usage of mobile phones is really a strictly-for-emergencies tool, and selfies well, I don't take any, thank god.

I suppose that makes me a little "old skool", but well... I'm not going with the trend, I am myself.

Although saying that, "specialist" speed dating nights, e.g. cougar ones (older women/younger men) - much as I hate using that term, gay speed dating nights etc. could just work provided you got your target demographic right.

So it could work... provided you targeted 30s and over, or something like that.

Tinder and apps are seen mainly (well, at least over here) as quick hook-up apps, not places for getting a long-term relationship.

Just my 0.02 cents. Hope this helps.

I would agree with the above; I guess it is people UNDER a particular age who tend to stick to their phones like glue. people who were born during an era when ;people still considered F2F talking, the norm, may well go for this kind of thing....
